Market Job Description

 

Supporting the European platform, the successful candidate will be responsible for EMEA VAT compliance advisory for a diversified financial services company.

The candidate will ideally have experience of international VAT issues, be a self-starter and a clear communicator with all levels of management. The candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to work independently and pro-actively with business lines, legal entities, and functional support groups.

Role

:
The candidate will support the International tax team in respect of the responsibilities below and will be located in our London office, reporting to the Director of Tax for EMEA and APAC.
The role focusses on the review of the VAT returns prepared by other areas of Wells Fargo and externally; and providing VAT advisory support to these teams on audits; new legislation changes; VAT compliance related projects and best practice compliance documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Director of Tax for EMEA and APAC, as well as the wider International Tax team as and when required.
  • Management of the VAT compliance review process, including testing, for key EMEA entities. This includes working with Finance colleagues and managing local agents in EMEA
  • Primary responsibility for technical VAT compliance work such as Capital Goods Scheme and providing VAT technical input on projects such as Making Tax Digital
  • Liaising closely with Corporate Tax and Transfer Pricing colleagues, and also local teams such as Finance, Legal and Property as required
  • Responding to and resolving EMEA tax authorities’ enquiries in a timely manner including management of VAT audits
  • Implement process efficiencies to facilitate and enhance VAT compliance and documentation thereof
  • Assisting with the provision of VAT support for ad hoc queries, with advice to different parts of the business as they develop new products and initiatives
  • Review changes to VAT legislation and consider impact for Wells Fargo’s EMEA entities, eg impact of Brexit changes on the place of supply.
  • Assist in VAT technical analysis and input into key projects and restructuring initiatives as required
  • Act as a technical expert on VAT matters for key stakeholders

 

Market Skills and Certifications

 

Qualifications /Experience required:

  • Post-qualification experience preferably within banking or financial services
  • VAT experience either in practice or in-house
  • University degree

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of European VAT issues for a multinational company
  • Good understanding of accounting and VAT reporting
  • Experienced in the processes for VAT reporting; compliance and review.

Business Skills

  • Deals regularly and effectively with business areas and other support areas
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely on VAT matters with senior management, and other non-tax personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with strong interpersonal skills
  • Liaise with and manage external advisors, engagements and business relationships
  • Ability to understand relevant business area issues and developments
  • Manage time effectively to consistently and timely deliver against targets
  • Ability to work independently and effectively so as to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Experience of working with functional groups outside of Tax and Finance
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
