Multi-Asset Trader (Permanent)

Manulife Investment Management provides comprehensive investment management solutions for institutional investors and investment funds around the world. We are looking for a trader to join the multi-asset trading desk in our London office.

Reporting to (the Head of Trading in London and the Head of FICC Trading in Boston), the Multi-Asset Trader will:

  • Execute trades within parameters as determined by relevant Portfolio Manager. The incumbent is responsible for achieving best price within set parameters. The Trader manages trades at all levels of liquidity, complexity and size:
    • Recommend trading strategies to Portfolio Manager resulting in delivery of the best price and volume.
    • Recommend appropriate trading levels (price based on market, timing, availability, volume) to other relevant traders and portfolio management staff
  • The Trader will be responsible for executing Derivative, Fixed Income, FX and Equity dealing in London.
  • Generate and distribute new trade ideas to Analysts and Portfolio Managers for investment consideration.
  • Screen market offerings and, if appropriate, determine dealer inventories and pricing.
  • Maintain and enhance existing firm relationships and develop new relationships where appropriate with sell-side trading desks to extract best liquidity and trade execution.
  • Communicate effectively with Analysts and Portfolio Managers on pertinent market conditions. Provide market colour/relevant news and their effect on trading levels to Analysts and Portfolio Management team in daily morning meeting and throughout the day.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above;
  • 2-5 years trading experience in Cash and Derivatives securities across Fixed Income, Rates, FX and crossover indexes. Knowledge of investment analysis, market practice and trading conventions. Able to articulate deal information effectively to senior levels.
  • Interest-Rate product knowledge, with a particular focus on OTC derivative products, Credit and Emerging Markets
  • Solid knowledge of current clearing and regulatory issues with ability to monitor and adapt to future regulatory changes as needed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with Brokers, Portfolio Managers, Research Analysts and team members.
  • Experienced trader with solid negotiation skills. Comprehensive knowledge of: securities and their markets; market protocols; factors influencing price trends; and securities exchanges.
  • Ability to recognise and prioritise competing demands in order to satisfy business need, including the importance of the pricing variables.
  • Ability to make solid decisions under pressure and to respond quickly to news and change.
  • Utilising proven leadership skills, able to enhance the internal and external functioning of the trading desk.
  • Strong business relationships internally and externally which include broker dealers, banks, investment banks through exceptional communication and relationship skills.
  • Experience with Bloomberg OMS/AIM trading system.
  • Ideal Candidate would be CF30 FCA Approved otherwise Industry recognised qualifications would be required; for example- CFA; IMC and CISI.
