Basic Function
The Application Development and Technical Service Manager – PPC (Polypropylene Compounds) reports to the Director of ADTS and provides day-to-day leadership to a team of (6) ADTS Engineers. This role ensures that technical resources and activities are aligned to deliver regional support of strategic customers and market opportunities, by facilitating the timely and effective provision of technological solutions in targeted market segments, while also providing technical support to key customers. Additionally, this role ensures that product safety and stewardship programs are in place and effectively sustained, including Product Risk Management Plans (PRMP). This management role directs the PPC ADTS Engineering Team and handles strategic automotive customer Tier One/Two accounts.
This position will require up to 50% travel. The preferred location is in Detroit, MI region serving LyondellBasell’s (LYB) automotive customers in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana as well as Windsor/Toronto (ON), Canada area.
The two primary responsibilities of this position is to provide day-to-day leadership of the PPC ADTS Engineering Team and support assigned key accounts with technical support in the Transportation Market with all aspects of injection molding processing, tooling and part design, as well as material recommendation capabilities.

•Drive improvement and development of direct reports, assisting in hiring and training efforts; empowering employees to make decisions.
•Understand financial analysis and drive the utilization of good project management skills and tools to advance product and application development projects effectively.
•Lead efforts to embrace and drive change while also challenging the status quo and influencing management as necessary.
•Exercise risk management related to ADTS activities (e.g. technical recommendations), GoalZero Safety, Product Stewardship, Regulatory affairs.
•Provide technical service to customers as required to support product/application launch and ongoing business in the following areas:
oDirect troubleshooting applications with process and or tooling concerns at customer plant locations.
oWork with customers regarding cost savings or process optimization opportunities.
oSupport newly awarded programs with part design, shrinkage estimations, mold filling analysis reviews, gate optimization, trial support, and product recommendations.
oAssist in the growth of APS business by identifying and influencing share-shift opportunities and promoting future program awards.
•Work directly with customers to clarify technical and commercial requirements for new applications and suggest suitable products that provide value to their applications.
•Work with Sales Account Managers to develop a business strategy for all assigned accounts.
•Assist in the validation of compound product transfers or product rationalization.
•Identify, research, and validate new application development opportunities aligned with the APS business unit growth strategy that provides technical innovation and value creation to our customers.
•Participate with the global teams to ensure the implementation of global strategies.
•Participate in industry trade conferences as required to keep current on market knowledge and market trends.
•Participate and present in both internal and external (customer) workshops as required.
•Support Plant Quality, Sales, and PAD in quality claims both internally and externally.
•Adhere to LYB’s requirements of Intellectual Property and Product Stewardship.
Min. Qualifications
Education:
•University Technical Bachelor’s degree with a preference in Plastics/Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, preferred.
