Channel 4’s Finance team has a vision to be trusted advisors, supporting and informing decision-making through insightful analysis, expert opinion and timely and accurate reporting. Efficiently and effectively ensuring the sustainability of Channel 4 through a strong system of financial control and compliance. The role will report to the Head of Group FP&A.
JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of the role is to provide financial analysis to the FP&A team. The main responsibility of the role will support the production of monthly reporting including monitoring risks & opportunities, quarterly reforecasts, annual budget, and three-year plan. The role will support the Head of Group FP&A in reporting against major strategic initiatives and delivering on the finance transformation programme. The role supports decision-making through the provision of insightful analysis, helping to ensure achievement of our strategic priorities and strong commercial outcomes, whilst ensuring the sustainability of Channel 4.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting and Understanding the Business
- The role works closely with the Head of Group FP&A to build relationships with key contacts across the business and within the Finance department
- The successful candidate will develop an understanding of the business areas in order to identify key risks & opportunities and be able to model the financial impact of decisions
- The candidate understands changes in the business’ needs, direction and management, and can evaluate how changes affect current role and responsibilities
- The role supports implementation of changes and assists in carrying out the goals and objectives of the FP&A team
Getting the Basics Right – Financial Analysis and Technical Skills
The Financial Analyst Is Responsible For Or Assists In
- P&L modelling to support the quarterly re-forecast & budget, three-year plan, viability statement and bank reporting
- Cash Flow modelling and analysis to support the above, this will be closely aligned to Treasury processes to assist the business on making investment decisions
- Support the quarterly re-forecast and annual budget process including system set up, training and support for the Finance BPs, along with analysis for FP&A Team
- Monthly variance analysis on P&L and Cash Flow – must be able to challenge and hold the Finance BPs to account
- Assist in preparing presentations and reporting to the business
- Assists in the development and continuous improvement of reporting, systems, processes, controls, and output
Providing Insight –Business Planning
- Provides support to the Head of Group FP&A in providing analysis and modelling to give insight to the business on major strategic initiatives and projects that support achievement of the strategy
- Provides support and analysis to the Head of Group FP&A in considering the optimal strategy for the structure of the Balance Sheet going forward
- Be able to support the finance transformation programme and be a key driver of change
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Recently completed a professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACA, ACCA preferable)
- Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of accounting standards and be able to apply these principles to financial modelling
- Experience of recognised financial systems, preferably Oracle and Hyperion
- Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Customer orientated with proven ability to develop close relationships with key contacts
- Advanced Excel skills (experience of basic financial modelling)
- Excellent financial analytical skills and experience, and a logical approach to problem solving
- Takes pride in attention to detail
- Team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude who can collaborate effectively and efficiently but who can also work (when required) independently
- Able to use own initiative to scout areas for improvements and suggest improvements for recurrent issues
- Able to work to tight deadlines and effectively manage changing priorities
- Experience producing dashboards using Power BI (or similar) would be desirable
