As the Leak Survey Technician I, you will apply the necessary technology to detect and classify natural gas system leaks, including scheduled and specially requested leakage surveys, using a variety of leak detection tools on both walking and mobile surveys. Applies training to identify immediate hazardous situations to protect life and property.

Specifically, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Performs leakage surveys on natural gas transmission and distribution systems using mobile and portable leak detection equipment.
  • Exercises judgment in properly classifying and grading leak indications as to the level of hazard.
  • Completes all required leak documentation and notifications.
  • Maintains documentation of all leak survey activity.
  • Repairs above ground leaks when practical.
  • Conducts both inside and outside leak investigations in a thorough and professional manner.  Adheres to company policies, procedures, safe work practices and standards.
  • Knows and complies with O.S.H.A., D.O.T., and State regulatory requirements of leak survey, leak investigation, operations, and gas distribution operations in general.
  • Works with Leak Survey supervisor on reporting, training, scheduling, equipment, and productivity issues.
  • Regular personal contact with the general public, customers, employees, and outside contractors, requiring above average tact and judgment.
  • Identify map inaccuracies and complete documentation as needed.
  • Conduct continual surveillance and report system anomalies and/or irregular conditions.
  • Provide assistance on incident investigations as needed, and assist crews in locating leaks for repair as needed.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• Requires a high school degree or GED
• Requires a minimum of two years of experience in natural gas distribution and/or services.

• Requires a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
