WHAT YOU WILL DO
Amgen is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Software Engineer to join our Therapeutic Discovery team in Bengaluru, India. Therapeutic Discovery partners closely with our talented Research & Medical Informatics team to develop advanced data systems that enable high throughput discovery and optimization of therapeutic molecules.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create systems for end to end informatics solutions in support of research activities to discover lead drug candidates
- Evaluate and utilize industry cutting-edge technologies to meet scientific business needs
- Translate scientific business requirements into scalable and supportable solutions to improve drug discovery informatics platforms
- Ensure effective communication between diverse stakeholders (e.g. business analysts, scientists and vendors) to implement informatics solutions in data acquisition, integration and analysis
- Provide technical support and training for Amgen’s drug discovery research software application platform

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree or
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of software development and business analysis experience or
- Associate’s degree and 6 years of software development and business analysis experience or
- High school diploma / GED and 8 years of software development and business analysis experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in Software Engineering with a proven track record of specification, design and development.
- Strong track record of developing software in Java is essential.
- Programming experience in other languages like C#, Python are good to have.
- Experienced in REST API development and/or consumption.
- Working knowledge in relational databases with a mastery of SQL.
- Experience in developing and supporting web applications including familiarity with web technologies and frameworks (Ext JS, D3.js, React)
- Strong experience working with agile methodology & DevOps frameworks (Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence, Github) with successful experience working in a distributed and collaborative team environment
- Experience in troubleshooting and debugging applications.
- An effective problem solver with the ability to understand and resolve complex issues.
- Drive high quality technical designs and solutions
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Resourcefulness, flexibility and ability to learn on the job
GOOD TO HAVE:
- Master’s degree in life or physical sciences, computer science or engineering
- Experience in the bio-pharmaceutical industry focusing on software development and business analysis
- Ability to quickly learn Informatics tools used to support screening, biologics discovery and optimization
- Expertise with translating scientific business requirements into technical requirements and recommending solutions
- Strong data analysis and reporting experience by leveraging analytics, visualization and database technologies (Oracle, PL SQL, Spotfire, Tableau, Python – NumPy, SciPy, Pandas)
- Experiences with Cloud (e.g. AWS), Big data (e.g. Databricks), Container (e.g. Docker) technologies and HPC (high performance computing) environments
- Knowledge of or experience in life, physical or computational sciences
