The Position
The Director, Financial Modeling & Integration will be an integral member of the North American Finance Group team. This role will be responsible for accounting/reporting for non-insurance entities within the insurance group, capital modeling, coordination of external audits, liaison for SOX and accounting policy items. This role will be critical in modernizing and making more efficient processes and data quality – for a significant and growing operation within Arch.
Job Responsibilities
- Accounting and reporting for the non-insurance entities within the insurance group, feeding into the North America MD&A and public company parent’s SEC filing.
- Capital and other regulatory modeling within the insurance group, including capital planning to optimize the use of affiliate reinsurance, working with the actuarial, tax and statutory accounting teams.
- Analyze potential merger & acquisitions: due diligence, modeling, and integration.
- Participate in company-wide enterprise risk management and economic capital initiatives.
- Contribute to technical accounting policies within the insurance group, coordinating with Arch Capital Services accounting policy group. This would include analysis and conclusions on GAAP and statutory accounting.
- Analyze new and developing products and issues and determine appropriate accounting policy and operational approach.
- Peer analysis – GAAP and statutory.
- Liaison with external public accounting firm as part of group audit.
- Coordinate financial risk management with ERM and Internal Audit Department.
- Take part in continuous reevaluation and improvement of the groups’ internal control environment, particularly through SOX and Internal Audit interaction.
- Will have extensive interaction with various departments/disciplines at the group, including other areas in finance, tax, actuarial, legal, reinsurance, underwriting, claims and IT.
Required Skills/Experience
- Minimum 5 years of North American property and casualty insurance industry experience, with exposure to RBC modeling a plus.
- Up and coming leader and team player that understands the needs for guidance and vision as well as the ability to work “in the trenches” as required.
- Dynamic and motivated individual, capable of handling complex structured tasks that require close attention to timing and detail, as well as unplanned projects and challenges that require effective and unique solutions, often in a compressed timeframe.
- Experience with and exposure to various operational disciplines (actuarial, underwriting, claims, IT, etc.)
- Knowledge of GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles and Risk Based Capital model
- Knowledge of leading edge finance and accounting software, tools and best practices.
- Ability to effectively communicate analysis and conclusions to financial information end-users.
- Ability to work within a global structure where certain core functions are modeled as shared services and managed by a corporate group.
Education
- Finance or accounting degree required.
- Certified Public Accountant and/or MBA strongly recommended.
