Dow is seeking a Mechanical Technologist at the Freeport, Texas location in the Plastics Reliability Zone supporting Poly 4.

The purpose of this Mechanical Technologist role is to provide the daily technical support necessary to maintain safe and reliable operation of the mechanical equipment.

This position provides maintenance craft specific support to plants. Maintains and repairs all types of equipment within craft knowledge and expertise. Participates on maintenance team which supports reliability improvement across all Operations facilities. Requires full proficiency in a range of technical, operational, or analytical/scientific processes and procedures through job-related training and considerable on the job experience to perform a variety of work assignments. Acts as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enables the people who manage and/or perform work in the field with the tools and information needed to perform their job effectively and efficiently.
• Requires full proficiency in a range of technical, operational, or analytical/scientific processes and procedures through job-related training and considerable on the job experience to perform a variety of work assignments.
• Acts as an informal resource for team members with less experience.
• Provides experience on failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations.
• Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
• During repairs ensure that repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, etc are provided and documented. Provide technical support as needed.
• Ensures repair techniques, repair procedures, and equipment specific training are documented and made available.
• Provides maintainability input to Six Sigma and other improvement activities.
• Provide technical support for specification, identification and purchasing of needed parts.
• As appropriate and required, reviews spare parts list for existing equipment. Determine if equipment should be stocked in support of the maintenance strategy.
• Develops quality control plans and ensures their execution
• Develops maintenance procedures and drives improvement to existing procedures based on Most Effective Technology (MET).
• Participates with Maintenance and Reliability Engineer in developing the equipment maintenance strategy by providing technical and historical information.
• Participates in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy.
• Serves as a technical resource to the planner on work packages.
• During development of turnaround work, provides input on scope of work.
• Evaluates Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) activities and determines appropriate action.

The Dow Chemical Company does not offer relocation assistance for this position. This includes reimbursement for travel expenses incurred to and from test sessions/interviews. Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years of mechanical rotating equipment experience is required.
• Working knowledge of basic process equipment (pumps, blowers, hydraulic and pneumatic systems) is required.
• Must be 18 years old or older.
• Must be willing to work weekends, and holidays, if required.
• Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular scheduled) if required.
• Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.
• A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of reciprocating compressors is preferred.
• Experience in high pressure polyethylene plants is preferred.
• NCCER Certification, Trade School or Associates preferred.
• SAP experience preferred.
• Experience using Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to use and read a Micrometer.
• Setting clearance on pumps with open face impeller.
• Orientation on angular contact ball bearings.
• Mechanical seal tensions.
• High pressure lens rings, cone rings and small bore tubing.
• Gear pumps and positive displacement pumps.

Physical Demands:

Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.
• Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
• Wear and use respirators.
• Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
• Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
• Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
• Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Our safety equipment has weight restrictions. To qualify, you must be able to use standard safety equipment which is rated for someone who weighs 300 pounds or less.

Education:

• A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
