Data Analyst

The Data Analyst position will play a key role in the IT Solution Delivery team to facilitate an understanding of the businesses data needs, documenting that need and the business process around it, and assisting team members with reflecting those requirements in our solutions and process design. The Data Analyst will assist the team in developing data architectures and domain specific data modeling in support of system development.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researches and understands customer processes and business needs
  • Collaborates with project managers and project team to refine project scope and vision
  • Works with project stakeholders in the elicitation and documentation of requirements
  • Develops a deep understanding of data domain for their area of focus
  • Supports data management initiatives and data stewards by being a domain data expert
  • Builds conceptual, logical and physical data models to support projects and help build domain knowledge throughout the organization
  • Leverages expert SQL skills to provide data extracts as needed to address project and business need.
  • Maps business requirements to necessary data architecture changes
  • Must be able to understand ETL flow to document data flow throughout organization

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in General Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, Analytics or Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of Data Analysis/Modeling experience
  • Experience with Systems Developments Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies
  • Experience with waterfall and agile development methodologies
  • Experience with industry data modeling techniques and processes
  • Insurance industry experience & knowledge of Annuity/Life products is a strong plus
  • Strong understanding of data management principles

Skills and Abilities

  • Understands general concepts of financial services/insurance environment, types of information used, how the data is produced, consumed and transformed
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to produce in a fast-paced environment while addressing multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented, collaborative, and matrixed environment
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Oracle PL/SQL writing experience
  • Strong data modeling skills, including use of Erwin
  • Experience with Informatica tooling environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in a fast-pace team environment and handle multiple projects and assignments under tight deadlines
  • Must demonstrate willingness to work flexible hours or travel as needed to accommodate business needs and deliverables

Location

This role is based at our headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. We may be open to exploring remote working options for this role as well.
