Position Overview:

Function as a key member of the core plant management & Specialty Containers (SC) Finance teams. Work as part of Plant management team to maximize plant profitability. Perform and coordinate all plant accounting and financial activities and ensure financial integrity of plant operations.  This is a hands-on role requiring successful candidate to work at both detailed task level and higher management support level.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: 

Management Support:

  • Provide financial information, analysis and support to various stakeholders (Plant Manager, Plant management team, Specialty Containers Business Unit Controller and Division management) as required.
  • Proactively use available tools to assess existing product profitability, identify improvement opportunities and follow-through as required with commercial and operations management
  • Lead monthly “bridge calls” discussing plant financial performance versus Budget, Prior Year and/or Forecast
  • Prepare materials and lead discussions for all financial portions of plant monthly / quarterly review meetings
  • Coordinate preparation and review of plant budget/forecasts with management
  • Coordinate preparation and submission of plant capital spending projects for management review and approval
  • Proactively participate in plant operations via internal meetings, interaction with staff and hourly employees, walk the floor, safety advocate, etc.
  • Establish, monitor and enforce internal controls and ensure compliance with ARP policies and procedures along with quarterly SOX certification
  • Develop and drive plant profitability improvement ideas and programs through a combination of specified commercial activity, cost leakage elimination, cost reduction programs, etc.
  • Identify and elevate actual and projected financial risks and opportunities to management on a timely basis

 

Analysis:

  • Review monthly segmentation results output (line costing / segmentation) to ensure accuracy of inputs and segmentation process
  • Complete financial analysis to monitor costs and financial position in key areas (volumes, margins, scrap, utilities, labor, R&M, inventory, etc.)
  • Analyze plant income statement (volumes, margins, variances, semi-variable costs, fixed costs, SG&A, etc.) and inventory transactions to identify issues, report on performance and drive continuous improvement
  • Develop annual plant budget and periodic forecasts (as necessary)
  • Develop and review designated plant balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Monitor plant inventory (raw material, packaging material, finished goods, spare parts, etc.) movements and position to identify and resolve potential financial exposure or process issues (OSM, HFI, shrinkage, significant variances, obsolescence etc.)
  • Prepare various financial models, as appropriate
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of plant driven (cost reduction, maintenance, EHS, quality, etc.) capital projects (CEAV’s)

 

Accounting:

  • Daily, weekly and month-end activities as required to ensure a complete, accurate and timely close process:
    • Create and post financial/statistical journal entries
    • General ledger maintenance/transactional processing
    • Review freight, purchase, cost center and other account coding and various other reports/data for exceptions and accuracy
    • Monitor and review asset additions, transfers and disposals. Ensure complete and accurate supporting documentation
    • Process debit/credit memo transactions (customer returns/claims, scrap/regrind shipments) and inter-company transfers
    • Review and confirm A/P voucher batches as supplied by corporate A/P
    • Prepare standard financial and operational reports as needed
    • Prepare and review assigned balance sheet account reconciliations including required supporting documentation

 

  • Accurate, complete and timely financial reporting of plant results through weekly reports, monthly closing & reporting process
  • Develop/update, review and input product segment statistical allocations
  • Ensure relevant accounting guidelines and policies are properly and consistently applied
  • Monitor plant fixed assets to ensure accuracy of movements (additions, transfers, disposals, etc.) and position
  • Assist plant operations in achieving A/P efficiency targets
  • Prepare, review and present annual and quarterly operational budgets and profit projections
  • Prepare Local, provincial and federal tax returns, as applicable
  • Coordinate with HR on payroll activity

 

Other:

  • Assist Specialty Containers Business Unit Controller with special projects as required

 

Qualifications:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree        In Accounting or Finance – CPA / CMA / MBA a plus
  • 7 – 10 years of experience in accounting / finance as Plant Controller in a manufacturing environment (or equivalent)
  • Experience developing and leading annual budget, periodic forecasting and monthly closing process
  • Experience developing and analyzing complex financial models
  • Strong IT systems aptitude (Excel, SAP, Outlook soft/BPC/Hyperion, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Travel 10%
