As Skanska’s Benefits Manager, you will have the responsibility of supporting all corporate benefit functions across the enterprise, within a Total Rewards structure. This position will play a key role in developing and maintaining a competitive and sustainable benefits portfolio, and ensuring effective administration of Skanska’s health, welfare, leave of absence, wellbeing and retirement programs.
Reporting to the Head of Rewards, this role will work in close collaboration with Skanska USA’s Shared Services teams (HR, IT, Communications and EH&S), as well as with other internal and external partners and vendors, as well as our employees. This position will primarily focus on delivering high quality support to our business units, and ensuring a first-rate employee benefits experience for our diverse workforce.
Benefits Manager Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Skanska’s benefit operations, including the daily administration of Skanska’s health, welfare, leave and retirement programs, in compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and company regulations.
- Oversee administration of health and welfare enrollments, deductions and reporting, and lead annual open enrollment and year-end processes.
- Manage the daily administration of multiple retirement programs, with a primary focus on 401(k) plan administration, in partnership with Total Rewards-Compensation specialists.
- Oversee administration and timely processing of 401(k) deferrals, loans, weekly funding and required reporting.
- In partnership with Total Rewards Analyst, lead collection and submission of required data and reporting for annual 401(k) audits and compliance testing.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors and TPAs; proactively collaborate and serve as primary point of contact for all benefit and retirement plan providers.
- Oversee leave of absence administration, in partnership with FMLA TPA; serve as subject matter expert for Skanska’s Paid Parental Leave program, ensuring accurate administration of PPL and concurrency of all applicable federal, state and local leave programs.
- Continue to develop Skanska’s PPL Case Management and working parent programs to ensure high-quality delivery of Skanska’s investment in parental support.
- Partner with vendors, TPAs and IT Team to manage benefit processes and integrations; ensure all benefit workflows and processes are properly configured and documented, and work to identify areas of opportunity for systematic improvements and automations.
- Oversee proactive internal auditing to ensure enrollment, deduction and leave of absence data integrity; troubleshoot and provide result outputs accordingly.
- Collaborate with Policy and Compliance Team to ensure all time off programs are properly configured and maintained in our payroll systems, and are administered in accordance with all applicable policies and regulations.
- Support employee benefit education efforts; develop creative and impactful content for benefit onboarding efforts, newsletters and email blasts, promotional campaigns and other communication efforts as needed.
- Partner with Compensation specialists to identify areas of intersection and opportunity for driving an overall Total Rewards strategy; additionally provide support and backup for non-qualified retirement programs and Skanska Employee Ownership Program (SEOP).
- Facilitate Skanska’s participation in benefit surveys and collection of benchmarking data; partner with Analyst to review internal trends and develop analytics evaluating the effectiveness of our portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to continually evolve portfolio, focused on competitiveness and sustainability; lead project management and implementation of approved changes and enhancements.
- Support the development and implementation of a robust national wellness strategy, encompassing physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
- Provide additional support to Head of Total Rewards as needed.
- Ensure diversity, equity and inclusion is at the core of all efforts.
Benefits Manager Key Attributes:
- At least 5 years of industry experience managing health, welfare, leave of absence, retirement and wellbeing programs.
- Demonstrated success in highly de-centralized and geographically diverse company structure
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office products
- Bachelor’s or other advanced degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance or other related discipline. Equivalent related work or military experience will be considered.
- Experience with HR, payroll and benefit-oriented platforms; Oracle HCM and JD Edwards experience a plus.
- Experience with systems implementation and workflow improvements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners
- Experience developing creative and graphic content (ie: promotional materials, newsletters, guidebooks)
- Ability to work well under pressure and with multiple priorities
- Collaborative, innovative and systems-focused thinking
- Strong operational skillset paired with strategic mindset, enabling practical conversations in all areas of the business
