The role

The Project:

The enabling works for HS2 encompasses a wide range of work activities but not limited in scope to clearing works, boundary fencing installation, ecology works, Archeology, existing road upgrade to newly built roads.

 

The Role:

The role of the Project Engineer is to plan, provide engineering control and supervise production resources, ensuring compliance with project and company systems for a defined section of the works.

 

Key relationships: Site Teams, Subcontractors, Local Residents and Contractor Functional Team

 

Location: Aylesbury Region

 

Key accountabilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Health, safety and environment

• Promote the Company Cardinal Rules and ensure the subcontractor establish safe working cultures and practices

• Comply with company procedures and legal obligations

• Promote and comply with environmental compliance

• Ensure the subcontractor delivers the works safely

 

Health & Safety

• Comply with operational site H&S requirements to ensure safe working practices

• Ensure subcontractor RAMS are reviewed/signed off and adhered to

• Report all near misses and incidents

• Ensure behavioural safety of the subcontractor aligns with H&S principles

 

Quality

• Promote best practice

• Comply with Company procedures Ensure work is delivered defect/snag free

• Carry out instrumental checks in accordance with the agreed guidelines and schedule

• Complete records of quality audits in accordance with agreed procedures and timescales i.e. at the end of works

• Ensure the subcontractor is working to approved quality documentation and is completing the required check sheets and ‘as built’ in an appropriate timeframe • Give feedback to the Senior Project Engineer regarding areas where corrective action needs to be taken with the appropriate level of urgency, of the risks associated with non-conformance during inspections

 

Engineering control

• Understand and interpret the drawings and specifications

• Provide engineering expertise and support to the subcontractor team

• Ensure accurate implementation of all engineering controls by the subcontractor team

• Ensure accurate ‘as built’ records of the works

• Ensure fully compliant Inspection and Test Plans for all elements of the works and supervises the delivery of the plan

• Measure and report compliance with systems and required standards

• Ensure risk assessments and method statements for safe execution of the works are in place and approved prior to the subcontractor commencing the work activity

 

Managing resources

• Deal with any actual or potential problems with subcontractors promptly liaising with the Senior Project Engineer where necessary

• Ensure that records of resources are complete and accurate

• Oversea toolbox talks, method statements and other key relevant documentation is briefed correctly to the site team in line with organisational and legal requirements

• Develop and maintain positive working relationships between Subcontractor operatives and staff; client and contractor; suppliers and contractors; public and contractors; and sub-contractors and contractors

• Ensure the subcontractor is managing the works onsite in line with their planned programme of works

 

Managing information

• Obtain all ‘as built’ information ensuring that it is accurate and relevant

• Record, store and maintain records and correspondence in line with organisational and legal requirements

 

Key measures & targets:

Accurate production of 3 weekly programme and timely delivery to main programme within set budgets Ensure subcontractor adheres to a timely handover of works and Quality records without outstanding defects

 

Skills & experience

• Relevant experience in general civil engineering

• Working knowledge of planning works with understanding of expected productivity outputs

• Knowledge of specifications and testing regime relevant to general civil engineering

• Degree in civil engineering/HNC or equivalent in civil engineering as a minimum

• CSCS card

• Good IT skills and able to work confidently with MS Office including Microsoft Project

• Ability to communicate and work with Subcontractor Site Engineers, Supervisors and site-based workforce

• Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to conclusion

• Working towards SMSTS

• Subcontractor management

• Roads, Earthworks, Drainage and Asphalt experience is key for success of the project
