Position Overview:
The Production Machinist is responsible for machining parts, production tools, fixtures, to keep us within running specifications. Utilizes
Duties And Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Plant Mechanical Engineer and Manufacturing Supervisor, responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
Interprets drawings and sketches, plans, and determines working procedures.
Performs any layout work and makes sketches of parts as required.
Calculates and determines dimensions, tapers, indices, and other data using shop formula, as necessary.
Makes and repairs tools, jigs, fixtures, machine parts, and/or machine attachments required for the job.
Setup and operates machine tools and production equipment for efficient machining and production.
Machine parts to precision tolerances and specified finishes.
Selects and grinds tools for the job in accordance with hardness, machinability, desired finish, and other properties of the parts to be machined.
Assembles aligns and adjust machinery and equipment to necessary tolerances.
Maintains, repairs, and sets up lane and tab dies to dimensional specifications.
Inspects and verifies tooling as per print specifications.
Assists in Planned Maintenance activities as required.
Performs welding as needed.
Assists Production Technicians with equipment failures or quality checks.
Assists Production Operator and Service operator as needed.
Encompasses the duties of the Production Technician.
Maintains a clean and safe work area.
Works in shop or production departments as required.
Supports and encourages employees to work safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
Minimum Requirements
Safety orientated.
Full understanding of manual lathes, surface grinders and related machine shop equipment.
Good mathematical skills
Manufacturing experience
Team orientated.
Ability to properly use micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
Have a good mechanical background.
Ability to work a 4×4 continuous operations (rotating days to nights every 8 weeks)
Machinist degree with at least 5 years of experience
Preferred Requirements
Packaging industry experience
Journeyman Machinist
Competencies
Ability to work independently or with a team.
Strong problem-solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach
Must be able to look at new solutions and “think outside the box.”
Mechanical aptitude
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The associate may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
Generally, works in a plant environment but will be required to perform some job duties inside a maintenance shop.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.
The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures.
The noise level is frequently loud.
