Introduction

Alstom in Romania has been present  over 25 years employing today over 450 people. Alstom, registered major success in infrastructure, signalling and also services. The long-term service agreement for the maintenance of the rolling stock of Metrorex is a major reference and shows the expertise of Alstom in this field. Alstom will continue to grow his business in Romania proposing further services for the local market and export, creating regional hub in Services and Signalling.

We operate in the domain of Design and construction of safety critical transportation systems.

Purpose of the Job

The Field Operations Engineer takes in charge the technical choices for the installation of a signaling system on board of a railway vehicle or trackside. He belongs to the Field Operations Engineering team and functionally reports to the Project Field Operation Manager for projects in charge.

 Objectives / responsibilities

Development of an installation technical file :

The quality of the installation depends on the following criteria :

  • Compliance to the installation technical constraints for the objects to be installed
  • The ease and quickness to install the objects
  • The homologability of the file and the activities related to the file
  • The genericity of the solutions implemented

The installation file development includes several phases :

  • Identification of the constraints linked with the system and the objects
  • Identification of the environment features (survey)
  • Choice of the installation concepts
  • Choice of the installation components (connectors, support, conduits, etc)
  • Follow-up of the drawings / schematics composition
  • Development of the methods and choices of the tools necessary for the installation execution,
    identification of the “gamme opératoire”
  • Composition of the file
  • Follow-up of the execution on a first installation (FoC) and adjustments
  • Technical follow-up during the roll-out
  • Write documents (installation files) allowing to distribute the technical information for execution teams on field.
  • Coordinate the stakeholders participating in the installation technical file (designers, engineers, project managers) in order to organize the activities
  • Establish and use the control and monitoring tools allowing to evaluate the quality of the installation activity on the non-recurrent costs, recurrent costs and installability performance point of view (e.g. installation hours, train immobilization duration).
  • Insure technical relationship with an installation subcontractor whenever the execution is subcontracted or whenever the installation file is subcontracted to external company (technical support to and control of subcontractor activities).
  • Provide support for tender activity for installation and commissioning for the signaling systems :
  • Technical support for the answer to the customer specification concerning installation and commissioning
  • Cost estimation for the installation and commissioning activities
  • Participate to the development of tools and methods linked with installation and commissioning activities in order to improve the installation and commissioning global process. 

Education: Engineering Degree (Master equivalent or above) within a technical cursus : electricity, electronics, electro-mechanics or equivalent experience in industrial environment.

  • Largely multidisciplinary and polyvalent profile (mechanics, electric)

Competencies :

  • Basic knowledge in development of methods and « gammes operatoires »
  • Knowledge in computer science allowing to use standard informatic tools (reports) and also possibility to learn specific tools linked with the metier.
  • Technical knowledge of the railway world
  • Ability to work with remote contacts in a multidisciplinary context.
  • Ability to be the representative of the company for our customers
  • Rigorous, reliable, autonomous

Language skills:

  • Good knowledge of English language allowing to collaborate within a technical worldGerman language knowledge is an asset
