The Quality Engineer plans, executes, and supports activities to maintain and improve Waukesha Bearings quality system to assure business, and manufacturing processes, inspection methods and quality documentation meets or exceeds established Quality Policy and customer’s requirements. The Quality Engineer will monitor processes, and initiate improvements focused on lowering overall costs of poor quality and meeting customer satisfaction demands by performing the below duties:
Role Purpose / Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support the business in maintaining and monitoring management system compliance to ISO 9001 requirements
• Lead and support internal and external ISO 9001 auditing;
• Establish, develop and improve management system processes and procedures;
• Support internal departments on the control and maintenance of management system documented information;
• Support customer and supplier queries pertaining to quality;
• Data analysis and internal quality performance monitoring;
• Initiate, lead and support continuous quality improvement activities through PDCA;
• Develop product inspection & test plans and incorporate contract requirements;
• Drive customer complaint investigation and problem solving through to resolution through PDCA;
• Support internal quality control initiatives and process changes to develop and establish in-process quality control;
• Carry out data analysis of supplier quality performance;
• Engage with and support DPC procurement team on supplier quality performance and nonconformities;
• Support supplier development through supplier engagement in improvement plans;
• Conduct onsite supplier quality audits to support the new supplier qualification and new product introduction processes;
• Establish, develop and maintain reporting of supplier quality performance metrics;
• Carry out data analysis of supplier quality nonconformity trends and report to quality and supply chain management;
• Support DPC procurement team with supplier communications on quality where necessary.
• Lead onsite supplier quality audits to support supplier qualification and product qualification processes;
• Carry out quality audits to qualify and support DPC procurement team supplier qualification and supplier monitoring and measurement.
Skills and Experience:
• Experience applying continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies.
• Use of problem solving tools (such as Isikawa and 5-Why) to determine root cause and corrective action;
• Ability to demonstrate a process approach in improvement initiatives;
• Strong experience and knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 is required,;
• Must have strong analytical skills and ability to identify trends in data;
• Must have experience and knowledge of an ERP/MRP system functions;
• Must be able to work and operate with minimum supervision;
• Must work on own initiative to identify and act upon quality deficiencies effectively and timely;
• Experience in a manufacturing environment;
• Knowledge and experience of machining processes, metrology and ability to read engineering drawings.
• Sound knowledge of all Microsoft packages with an excellent command of Excel;
• Must work well with other team members and across all functions of the organization;
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels in the organization.
Qualifications and Training:
Essential:
• Minimum HND or degree in a relevant engineering quality or manufacturing discipline (preferably mechanical)
• ISO 9001:2015 auditor certification (lead assessor advantageous)
Desirable:
• Formal Health and Safety Training
• Continuous Improvement certification (Green Belt)
