About the Role
The Payroll team are responsible for servicing over 4,000 employees across 5 different payroll areas and 3 different payroll cycles, with multiple EBA and superannuation arrangements. The Payroll Manager is a hands-on role that leads the day-to-day service delivery of these payrolls across all AGL sites and locations.
Key to success will be the ability to balance strong leadership and hands on involvement to deliver agreed service levels in accordance with employment contracts and industrial instruments that comply with relevant payroll legislation and statutory obligations. Successfully leveraging emerging technologies and methodologies to drive improved business outcomes will also be essential.
What you’ll be doing:

Manage day-to-day payroll processing services performed by AGL’s payroll outsourced service partner, ADP, to drive delivery of agreed performance management standards, including from a reputational and social licence perspective

Leading a team of 6 payroll specialists

Embed and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and Checklists to ensure that processes followed are consistent, predictable and productive

Nurture stakeholder relationships to understand diverse business needs across the enterprise, provide recommendations and pro-actively influence positive payroll outcomes

Provide stewardship, credible advice, and support in a pro-active, confident, collaborative, and energetic manner by being seen as trustworthy and reliable

Optimise end-to-end payroll processes through automation and analytics to improve efficiency and effectiveness whilst ensuring risks are being appropriately monitored and/or mitigated

Foster an analytical mindset to drive performance and insight and make recommendations for developing business processes across the enterprise to support achievement of AGL’s strategic priorities and operational goals

Perform quality control audits and embed governance framework, including RACM, into day-to-day operational processes, ensuring that risks are frequently reviewed, and controls assessed and tested

Safeguard integrity of payroll outcomes by keeping abreast of ongoing changes in both internal and external factors, and support change request processes for such
What you’ll bring to the table:

Extensive experience managing operational payroll teams in large businesses with both white and blue collar workforces, ideally with offshore/outsourced service providers

Working knowledge of SAP HR/Payroll system is essential, and Kronos knowledge desirable

Solid understanding of industrial instruments, awards and NES with respect to Payroll

Hands-on experience of different superannuation arrangements (Defined Benefits advantageous)

Demonstrated application of emerging technologies and methodologies to improve systems and processes, including Office 365

Strong relationship management with effective business partnering and influencing across complex and geographically dispersed organizational and management structures

Proven capability in leading and developing enterprise wide operational teams in complex and diverse businesses across varied stakeholder groups and multiple locations in high change environments

Ability to think laterally, challenge the accepted norms and to continually look at driving change and improvements

Accomplished data driven evaluation, financial analysis and insights experience

Development and change control of process documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and Checklists
