Distinguished Engineer – Cyber Strategy and Research

Verisign enables the security, stability, and resiliency of key internet infrastructure and services, including providing root zone maintainer services, operating two of the 13 global internet root servers, and providing registration services and authoritative resolution for the .com and .net top-level domains, which support the majority of global e-commerce.

Verisign is looking for a Distinguished Engineer of Cyber Strategy and Research to provide strategic direction and thought leadership on technology initiatives including network intelligence, continuous monitoring, and incident response.  The role will include support network abuse prevention and mitigation initiatives across Verisign, as well as engaging with external parties to proactively research and report on industry, technology, and security trends.  Candidates should have experience with DNS and/or internet routing and infrastructure; data analytics; creating and maintaining programs and partnerships to advance cybersecurity. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and share our vision of enabling the world to connect online with reliability and confidence, anytime, anywhere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all established information security standards
  • Lead and work with internal cross-functional teams, as well as create and maintain external partnerships, collaborations, and alliances to advance the organization’s objectives.
  • Experience with network intelligence including flow data, telemetry analysis, network automation, scripting, metrics, and maturity
  • Develop and execute strategies, and build partnerships and alliances, that help prevent and / or mitigate abuse and improve the safety and security of the global DNS.
  • Use data-driven methods to identify, analyze and engage in network security-related initiatives
  • Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze operational metrics and ensure accuracy of data and reports.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Verisign’s security and infrastructure programs, to include public presentations, briefing papers, and communications collateral, as well as government and law enforcement engagement.
  • Support information security governance team to align IT infrastructure with established standards.

Qualifications

  • 15 years of technical experience in DNS systems, Internet Infrastructure, Commercial Traffic, DDoS, Information Security, and/or Cryptography
  • 7 +years of experience engaging or participating in industry forums or groups
  • Experience fostering relationships and knowledge of law enforcement community globally
  • Experience using data to identify, analyze and engage in other security-related initiatives, and coordination of data gathering and research initiatives
  • Experience with the domain name registration pipeline, including related security requirements and protocols, and domain name acquisition, usage and protection
  • Experience analyzing and communicating context and relevance to large amounts of research data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; highly collaborative with confirmed ability in business partnering and influencing executives, internal customers and management of third-party vendors.
  • Ability to be nimble through constant change and unexpected challenges
  • Self-starter and results-oriented, able to work under minimal mentorship
  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience
