Job Overview and Responsibilities
SUMMARY:
• Individual accountability for site HSE, Quality, Productivity, and Manufacturing Excellence objectives
• Ensure all aspects/standards of the Responsible Care Safety Program are met
• Performs varied maintenance and repair work of high grade in any location to keep piping and equipment in good condition
• Work requires familiarity with the purpose, construction and assembly of equipment/piping and generally includes such duties as examining piping to determine condition, troubleshooting piping/fitting issues, dismantling, replacing or repairing parts, piping or fittings as well as reassembly of each.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work on rotating equipment (ie pumps, compressors, etc) as assigned and as back-up to the industrial mechanics.
• Interprets work orders, drawings, sketches, specifications and other instructions regarding scheduled and emergency repairs, changes, installations and inspection work to be done.
• Plans details and sequence of working procedures and material procurement to affect the best approach to the job.
• Knows and supports the corporate quality policy, Welland Plant practices, procedures and regulations as they affect this trade such as layout, materials, equipment, operations, safety, housekeeping and preventative maintenance programs.
• Fabricates and installs pipe, valves and fittings (screwed and flanged) as well as make repairs to existing infrastructure/piping systems including process and utility systems.
• Removal, disassembly and rebuild of valves of various size/type/application.
• Removal, disassembly and rebuild of other miscellaneous equipment/components including but not limited to plate and frame heat exchangers, steam traps and conservation vents.
• Uses oxygen-acetylene equipment to cut and heat as well as other tools to perform tasks.
• Follows Solvay QC Manual to ensure all fabrication, installation and erection of piping systems are to appropriate standard.
Education and Experience
• Knowledge of and ability to use all tools and equipment pertinent to the trade
• Must be a certified Journeyman Pipefitter and if required possess TSSA certifications in various welding procedures.
Skills
• Retubing and testing of condensers, heat exchangers and intercoolers
• All elements of pipefitting work
• Repairs to valves and other industrial components/fittings
• Moderate rigging for removal and placement of equipment
• Cutting and heating to facilitate removal and installation of equipment
• Assists welder in repairing leaks on piping and other equipment.
• Fabrication and welding of various structures, vessels, components.
