Aviation Software Certification Engineer 1

We are looking for a full-time Software Certification Engineer 1 for our headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.  In this role, you will be responsible for supporting certification of Garmin Aviation software releases by preparing required documentation and supporting Software Quality Assurance activities.  Other essential functions include:

  • Draft completion documents that are required for certification of aviation software according to  RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C
  • Conduct basic Software Quality Assurance audits according to instruction
  • Apply engineering tools and scripts to aid in the completion of  document or audit tasks
  • Administer the release and Engineering Change Order (ECO) of documents related to software, according to Document Control procedures
  • Review software documents for accuracy and compliance, including the review of system level software parts such as loader cards
  • Work with Software Engineering teams and internal certification approvers to resolve audit and documentation issues
  • Provide Software Configuration Management (SCM) function by building and releasing software executables for production
  • Understands life cycle data of a simple project and applies knowledge in essential functions 
  • Leverages basic knowledge of requirements, programming and software testing for RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C to thoroughly document and audit work 
  • Communicates status of work through communication and visibility to supervisor or mentor 
  • Work collaboratively and professionally in a team environment  with other Garmin associates to achieve goals, sharing information freely and positively 
  • Identifies and resolves defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques
  • Applies standards and procedures to accomplish tasks
  • Learns how to use and apply appropriate tools as needed for this role
  • Thoroughly documents work in an organized manner
  • Accept and act on constructive feedback

Qualified candidates possess Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or another substantially similar technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.  Other requirements include:

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Must demonstrate ability to learn how to use and apply engineering tools 
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to maintain and deliver a high level of quality and accuracy 
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Excellent time management and follow-up skills 
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Demonstrates ability to complete well defined basic tasks and/or projects
  • Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel 

Experience in software processes or auditing are highly preferred.
