Verisign enables the security, stability, and resiliency of key internet infrastructure and services, including providing root zone maintainer services, operating two of the 13 global internet root servers, and providing registration services and authoritative resolution for the .com and .net top-level domains, which support the majority of global e-commerce.
Verisign’s unique, proprietary DNS registration and resolution infrastructure is purpose-built for dependability in an ever-increasing cyberthreat environment. This network of hardware and specialized software, distributed globally across hundreds of points of presence, has provided uninterrupted resolution service for the .com and .net top-level domains (TLDs) – relied on by most of the global e-commerce – for over 24 years.
With so much economic activity and so many critical online services reliant on accurate DNS navigation, any outage could have serious consequences – hence our commitment to 100% resolution availability and accuracy, and strict query response times. We also provide registry services for several other well-known TLDs, including .gov and .edu and, uniquely among registries, we operate 2 of the 13 internet root servers and maintain, digitally sign with DNSSEC, then securely distribute, the internet root zone.
