Annuity Lead Model Developer

Work Location:

Charlotte, NC (hybrid), Morristown, NJ (hybrid), or Fully Remote. To protect the health and safety of our employees, our offices are closed until mid-September 2021. When our offices reopen, the organization will be moving to a hybrid work model.

How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

This position is responsible for implementing and monitoring Prophet model changes pertaining to the Annuity products, using best in class modeling standards. The immediate focus of this position will be on Fixed Deferred and Payout Annuity products, and the scope will change as Brighthouse grows and launches new products.  This position supports an essential function which will provide assurance to model users of the validity and transparency of model results for use in financial statements, and for analysis and risk management purposes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement Prophet annuity modeling solutions by utilizing product knowledge, studying existing models, and analyzing business requirements
  • Delegate tasks to, organize, mentor, and motivate a team of talented model developers
  • Provide training, modeling guidance and best practices to modeling team
  • Foster a culture of continuous feedback and improvement
  • Work with the Annuity Model Steward to plan and execute projects
  • Review model development deliverables regularly
  • Implement and test new software releases, library updates, new products, and new regulatory requirements
  • Maintain relationships with software vendors, consultants, and internal annuity modeling clients

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation required; FSA designation advantageous
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience in an insurance company, consulting, or software company setting
  • 5+ years’ experience in actuarial modeling design and development
  • 2+ years of Prophet Professional model development strongly preferred; familiarity with the US 360 and/or ALS libraries advantageous
  • Significant product knowledge to understand modeling requirements for Annuity products
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Conceptual and analytical skills to develop solutions to complex problems
  • Sound business judgment skills (decision-making and problem solving)
