Purpose of Job:
This position is primarily responsible for managing and maintaining regulatory compliance for all Industrial Hygiene programs and activities across the Americas Region. Reporting to the Manager of Occupational Health, this is a highly visible position in the Safety, Health, and Environmental department and will serve as the subject matter expert for Industrial Hygiene.
Key Accountabilities:
- Promotes Occupational Health initiatives through active engagement with the workforce and participation with the site Safety & Emergency Response teams
- Anticipates and recognizes occupational health stressors and implements effective control strategies
- Independently identifies continuous improvement opportunities to effectively control exposures to occupational and environmental health hazards
- Serves as the administrator for Occupational Hygiene Programs at the Lake Charles Chemical Complex (LCCC)
- Directs Industrial Hygiene monitoring strategies for all North American manufacturing locations and R&D Laboratories
- Manages and coordinates sampling activities and analytical services for IH sampling
- Manages the Industrial Hygiene data management system to ensure data integrity and preservation
- Reviews all Industrial Hygiene monitoring data to develop and communicate health risk assessments and recommendations to site management teams
- Participates in and leads incident investigations, as necessary or directed
- Anticipates regulatory changes and industry trends affecting our operations, and proactively leads the change management process
- Represents Sasol through interaction and participation in industrial and community groups such as ASSE, AIHA, ACC, etc.
Formal Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Toxicology, or related field
- Certified Industrial Hygienist, required
- Certified Safety Professional, preferred
Working Experience:
- 10+ years related experience in petrochemical manufacturing environment
Required Personal and Professional Skills
- Strong background and understanding in regulations impacting chemical operations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT is required
- Experience with SAP, Microsoft Office and Teams, and SharePoint software preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Ability to cultivate relationships and influence change across multiple levels within the organization
