Senior Toxicologist

Purpose of Job

Securing the long-term marketability of products marketed by Sasol Chemicals in compliance with all applicable Global regulations and with adherence to Product Stewardship and Corporate principles, with the aim of preserving and increasing Sasol’s competitiveness. Conducting hazard & risk assesments to ensure that the products of Sasol Chemicals can be produced utilized and marketed without posing any risk to humans and the environment.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Assess the risk to humans and the environment over the entire life cycle of Sasol’s products & develop strategies to mitigate risk, if potential risks are identified
  • Initiate & monitor company-sponsored toxicity studies on Sasol Chemicals products
  • Monitor health effects information and related regulatory developments, trends, and evaluate their impact on Sasol Chemicals products
  • Represent Sasol’s interests in national and international industrial associations as well as science, government and industry committees to achieve divisional as well as overall company objectives
  • Monitor, communicate, coordinate responses and provide technical assistance to internal and external Sasol Chemicals customers on Product Safety and Occupational Health Coordinate the preparation and submittal of global notifications and registrations for Sasol Chemicals products
  • Coordinate the utilization of outside consulting services for Global Product Safety projects Represent Sasol Chemicals in registration and testing consortia (e.g. REACH), ensuring that Sasol’s interests are considered Prepare and exchange information with (eco)-toxicology experts from academia, government agencies, customers and industry in order to assess the inherent properties of substances with the overall aim of securing Sasol’s market position in accordance with Responsible Care

 

Formal Education

Doctoral Degree in Toxicology or a university degree in the field of natural sciences (chemistry, pharmacology, biology) and a post-graduate degree in toxicology

 

Working Experience

Minimum 7 years of experience in chemical or related industry

 

Required Personal and Professional Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Training/presentation skills and experience desirable
  • Ability to work independently, ability to work in and lead a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure and frequent travel
