ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Our team in South Plainfield currently has an opening for a Assistant Controller

The purpose of this Assistant Controller position is to support the finance and accounting organization of Brenntag Specialties, LLC.  In this role, the assistant controller with oversee the monthly accounting and reporting process and help manage the account payable function.

YOUR ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Purpose of the Position

  • Analyze and prepare monthly journal entries, maintenance and analysis of general ledger accounts, balance sheet reserve analyses, and upload backup information to Blackline reporting system.
  • Oversee accounts payable function, initiate wire transfers, and update/maintain vendor master file for the division.Manage accounting for changes in vendor pricing and other product costs.
  • Calculation of pricing for competitive pricing quotations.
  • Monitoring of daily invoice register for authorized margin levels.
  • Freight responsibilities that include managing freight carriers and maintaining freight routing guide.
  • Prepare and maintain sales tax reporting function, in conjunction with the BNA tax department.
  • Prepare and maintain property tax, business use and occupancy tax schedules.
  • Manage administration of company auto fleet (60+ vehicles).  Coordinate new vehicle orders with drivers and manage fuel and maintenance cards.  Maintain driver’s license data for employees and spouses.Submit and manage all auto accident claims.
  • Maintain Fixed Assets Register through SAGE.
  • Administer and process all petty cash transactions.Prepare monthly cash forecast.
  • Back up responsibilities for Credit Manager.
  • Help drive the monthly close process, updating excel files, and financial reports for management.Maintain and upload financial reporting files in SAP on quarterly basis as required by German parent company.
  • Support the budget process as needed.
  • Maintenance of Global Lease Center (GLC).
  • Participate in monthly management calls.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and help to ensure continued compliance.

Supervision

  • The Assistant Controller performs standard and complex assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems which may require exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the Finance Director, along with signoff for monthly financial statements.
  • The position is responsible for guiding and developing a team that includes a finance intern, and two accounting/clerical support employees.

Scope and Impact

  • The scope of the position ranges from day-to-day tasks to projects that impact the decisions made by higher management affecting business units in the entire North American region.

  • The job entails problem solving, critical thinking and managerial skill; and strong communication ability. The Assistant Controller will perform complex financial tasks, with the need to think critically and work independently, and is a key member of the business management team.

  • Accounting degree with additional Finance and business training
  • 3 to 5 years of General Accounting experience
