Fort Knox is an open-pit gold mine located near Fairbanks, Alaska in one of the largest gold producing areas of the state. It is mined by conventional open-pit methods, with ore processed at a mill and heap leach facility. Fort Knox has one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Additionally, Kinross recently announced the acquisition of a 70% interest in the Manh Choh project located approximately250 kilometers south of Fairbanks, Alaska and the execution of the Gil Project located approximately 19 kilometers northwest of the Fort Knox mine.
Job Description
Under the direction of the Senior Accountant, will perform activities related to the site’s General Ledger and Financial Statement preparation, utilizing multiple software packages & financial models.
Will assist in financial reporting in compliance with Kinross policies, GAAP and IFRS. Ensure service and operating standards are met processing transactions that impact site cash-flow. Assist site accounting team with timely and accurate variance analysis across multiple departments while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Job Responsibilities
1. Maintain the Master Close Schedule and Journal Entry List.
2. Coordinate closing activities for across multiple site departments to meet closing deadlines.
3. Assembles support for and prepares all closing entries and submits for posting.
4. Posts month-end consumables cycle count entries.
5. Coordinates monthly Warehouse/Accounts Payable closing activities.
6. Reconciles all Balance Sheet accounts (except fixed asset accounts) monthly.
7. Reconciles all bank accounts monthly.
8. Ensures an audit trail exists directly connecting all entries to the causative event.
9. Researches and resolves coding issues in the General Ledger.
10. Coordinates all internal and external department audits.
11. Serves as primary liaison between auditors and Fort Knox staff.
12. Tracks and coordinates the preparation and submittal of all audit documents.
13. Prepares audit work papers and analysis as needed.
14. Prepares commentary, coordinates, and assembles the site’s quarterly financial reporting package.
15. Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to internal accounting as needed.
16. Prepares all Mine License/Production Royalty tax workbooks and estimates in support of return preparation.
17. Prepares technical documents to support decision making.
18. Prepares technical reports and documentation, and retains financial records to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements.
19. Will function as the backup for the FP&A Accountant as needed
20. Communicates information related to variance analysis and help determine proper path forward.
21. Provides information to site operating departments on Kinross financial reporting standards, compliance requirements, and policies.
22. Helps develop other department personnel to enable performance of duties listed above.
23. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.

Education and Experience
- Undergraduate business degree from an accredited University
- Accounting degree preferred.
- CMA/CPA or MBA preferred.
- 2+ years of related work experience, preferably in a mining or continuous process environment.
- General Ledger experience with an integrated ERP/MRP software package coordinating multiple business units and proper allocations preferred.
- Previous experience in the mining industry with a SOX regulated entity is preferred.

- Working knowledge and skill with minimum intermediate level with P.C. utilizing Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and database familiarity.

- Must be a self-starter with a focus on meeting deadlines.
