What you will be doing
As an Analytical/Quality Assurance Technician you’ll be responsible for supporting Quality Lab in production analysis requirements and reporting. Specifically, this will include:
- Conducting Spectrography for trace element determinations, gravimetric determinations on precious metals and other elements, and x-ray spectroscopy for major element determinations
- Coordinate and ensure timely and accurate analysis for the support of production and development products. Responsible for the strict control, maintenance, and improvements of existing analytical test methods, equipment, and calibration requirements to guarantee accuracy and precision
- Implement new tests and techniques for emerging requirements or product technology. Evaluate and determine procedures as well as perform testing for non-routine samples. Coordinate tests by outside laboratories or by other Umicore sites if necessary
- Responsible for laboratory safety by reinforcing the ISO 14001 System and continuing to maintain the 5S processes in the laboratory. Implement the EH&S Systems associated with the lab to achieve zero recordable accidents
- Maintain existing x-ray standards, laboratory procedures, inventory records, traceability standards, safety manual and lab chemical listing
- Proper labelling and disposal of hazardous waste material (KCN, HNO3) in conjunction with EH&S to ensure OSHA regulations are followed
Who we are looking for
Our success is based on individuals who are ready to make the most of their skills and prepared to tackle any challenges they face. As well as your Bachelor’s in Chemistry or Equivalent Analytical Lab experience in a manufacturing environment (chemical assaying of precious metals alloys preferred), you should have demonstrated ability to perform analytical and metallurgical testing. We’ll also be looking for:
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and compile reports
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, SAP B1 and SharePoint)
- Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
- Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to prioritize and work independently with minimal supervision
