Key Responsibilities:
As the Applications Support Manager, you are responsible for a large number of industry-specific applications. Your day involve any number of different activities like:
- Leading application technical teams in providing operational support à assist with work prioritization for the team; evaluating alternatives and trade-offs, making decisions, communicating with stakeholders.
- Monitoring service delivery and adjusting work prioritization and resourcing as necessary.
- Budget management including being an owner of the procure to pay processes for IT software and services for the refinery.
- Application life cycle management planning and execution.
- Managing vendor relationships including contracting for products and services.
- Managing relationships with other internal IT teams (e.g. Corporate IT services, infrastructure services, security etc).
- Managing small projects.
- Assisting with managing project prioritization for the refinery IT project portfolio including resulting resource planning activities.
- Personnel management: performance management, personnel development, succession planning for the team.
- IT management accountability: for compliance requirements (C-SOX, audit), IT change advisory board, Operational Excellence stewardship (incl. safety, loss prevention), IT security.
- Corporate initiatives: guide Refinery IT resources to support corporate initiatives; communicate Parkland Corporation requirements.
- Ensuring the team maintains architectural artifacts.
- Ensuring project teams effectively complete transition to production operations processes when commissioning systems.
- Act as a participant in IT architectural reviews.
- Review IT operational processes and drive process improvement activities.
- Provide backup technical support coverage to the team.
- Occasional after-hours work providing best efforts operational support or during specific events (e.g. refinery maintenance turnaround, IT incident).
- Represent Parkland Corporation IT in business committee, as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Previous industry experience in downstream oil and gas with a preference for refining or other process safety sensitive environments is an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of IT experience and 3 years in application support.
- Prior experience leading technical teams.
- Working knowledge of the use of Windows Server, Database servers (SQL Server, Oracle, PostGres), Web servers (IIS, Apache). Familiarity with industrial control systems.
- Experience with vendor management, negotiation and contracting.
- Understanding enterprise architectural design principles, IT security design principles are an asset.
- ITIL Foundation Certification considered an asset.
- Familiarity with cloud architectures and particularly Amazon Web Services is an asset.
- Knowledge of C-SOX compliance requirements and managing IT custodian requirements to help fulfill IT audit.
- Project management certificate (i.e. PMI CAPM or higher) is an asset.
- Interpersonal skills: communication (verbal and written); conflict resolution.
- Organizational skills: ability to plan and manage work activities, staffing.
