The CGM Energy division are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join their team. This individual will support the underwriters with their day to day administrative and technical responsibilities and develop their own underwriting abilities. They will support the underwriting team in delivering a high quality service by taking ownership of some of the operational functions of the team. They will develop technical and broader business skills in this specialist product line to enable them to develop the appropriate underwriting skill set, working closely with experienced Underwriters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shadow Underwriters to learn the underwriting process
  • Assist Underwriters to gather and record broker new business and renewal submissions
  • Prepare and gather information required for Underwriters in order to assist with the quoting stage, including engineering reviews
  • Manage catastrophe modelling, liaising with the Cat Team, reviewing output and referring to the Underwriter
  • Learn all aspects of the portfolio
  • Learn all the actuarial functions
  • Produce periodic reports such as production, exposure summaries, rate movement and adequacy
  • Learn all financial, legal, regulatory and compliance as it relates to the role
  • Work closely with the operations departments to ensure all outstanding queries are addresses within the specified timeline
  • Build and maintain good relationships with brokers
  • Attend technical presentations and training programs internal and external to improve technical understanding of the product line
  • Any other ad hoc duties allocated by the Line Manager
  • Experience of the London or Lloyd’s market preferably in Downstream Energy Open Market
  • Minimum A levels
  • Preferably higher level qualification such as a degree
  • Must be willing to or have already started to study for professional examinations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Understanding of CAT models, Primary and XOL and rating models
  • Ability to demonstrate logical approach to processes and problems
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills and able to manage time effectively and prioritise work accordingly
