Job Summary
The Total Rewards function is seeking an Associate Director, Benefits to lead Otsuka’s Benefits function within Total Rewards. This individual will act as the subject matter expert in benefits design and delivery in support of the company’s Total Rewards & Benefits strategy. This position will lead the strategy and administration of the company’s full suite of health and welfare offerings, including healthcare plans, life and disability plans, ancillary plans, and wellness programs. Reporting to the Senior Director, Total Rewards, the Associate Director will manage a Benefits Manager.
Job Description
Areas of focus include but are not limited to:
- Develop benefit programs and recommendations using competitive data, industry trends, costs, and employee experience for Otsuka employees in the US. Determine opportunities to improve the Otsuka benefit plans and employee experience through new or enhanced programs, processes, vendors and tools.
- Drive the continued overall design, administration, delivery and support of the organization’s employee benefits programs and related procedures to ensure successful adoption and compliance with all applicable laws
- Foster robust well-being programs that connect Otsuka employees to the Company and community, provide education for holistic physical and financial wellness and improve employee engagement
- Benefits subject matter expert and liaison to the company’s vendors. Additionally, serve as an internal benefits consultant and educator to employees, People Team and Business Partners
- Maintain a continuous knowledge of competitive benefits trends and further refine Otsuka’s Total Rewards and Benefits philosophy
- Key stakeholder in the development of impactful benefits-related HR Analytics, including ongoing reporting of dashboards and ad-hoc reports
- Ensure benefits programs and processes are documented and compliant with People team strategies, policies and governmental regulations.
- Proactively collaborate with People Team and Business Partners in program delivery and other projects. Maintain clear understanding of the integration with other People and Finance workstreams (e.g. payroll, accounting, etc.) and the downward impact of benefits-related decisions and process changes.
- Effectively manage vendor and third-party administrator relationships.
- Continually evaluate existing benefits programs and processes; make recommendations for enhancements or improvements in support of strategic initiatives or as triggered by changes to available environments, regulation, technology or business needs.
- Support COVID-19 employee health and safety efforts, including the management of HR Reported Incidents.
Job Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
- A minimum of 7 years of combined HR experience is required
- A minimum of 5 years directly involved with leading benefits, or similar experience
- Extensive working knowledge of general business and HR practices with strong understanding of Human Resources programs, processes and data is required
Additional knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Deals with ambiguity and can change directions when needed
- Previous experience administrating benefits in Workday is preferred
- Communicates effectively; strong and engaging facilitator
- Professional Certification preferred (CEBS, PHR, SPHR, etc.)
- Ability to compile, analyze, interpret and present employee information and data accurately and with attention to detail
- Ability to organize work and follow-up skills are critical to the successful performance of position responsibilities
- Critical thinker with strong time-management, organization, multi-tasking and prioritization skills to meet deadlines
- Ability to operate independently in an ambiguous environment and handle complex employee issues with sensitivity and high level of confidentiality is required
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, across all levels of the organization
- Must be flexible and a strong team player
- Sound public speaking skills is required
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully
- Up to 10% travel is required based upon business needs.
