Cell Biologist, Neuroscience & Oncology

Astex Pharmaceuticals is a world leader in innovative drug discovery and development. The company has
successfully applied its proprietary Fragment-Based Drug Discovery platform to generate multiple new
drug candidates that are progressing in clinical development. Successful collaborations have led to two
launched oncology drugs (Kisqali® partnered with Novartis and BalversaTM partnered with Janssen). Astex
continues to grow and focuses on Oncology and Neurological Disorders.
Opportunities are available for biologists in the neuroscience and oncology therapeutic areas with a
strong scientific background and a track record of success in research who are looking to make that next
step in their career. The successful candidate/s will be highly motivated with a broad understanding of
the CNS or cancer biology fields. They will have the capacity to think creatively and a demonstrated ability
to interact with and influence multi-disciplinary project teams. This is an exciting opportunity to

Responsibilities
• Use a wide range of cell biology and molecular biology techniques to provide laboratory-based
support for drug discovery projects
• Contribute scientific expertise and influence biology activities in multi-disciplinary project teams
• Design and execute biological studies both internally and through external partners (coordinating
work at CROs and through collaborators)
• Interact with external scientific experts
Experience and Qualifications
• A PhD in a biological science with postdoctoral experience in CNS or cancer research or a BSc with
equivalent experience
• Demonstrable proficiency in a range of cell and molecular biology techniques
• Knowledge of mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases or expertise in oncology
• The ability to contribute to multidisciplinary project teams and a working knowledge of drug
discovery would also be an advantage
