Chemistry Specialist

The Chemistry Specialist will perform a variety of routine analytical tests. The position will also include performing or providing mentorship on a variety of sample preparations/extractions/leaching and standards and reagent preparation.

• Perform routine analysis on complex instruments with assistance from Scientist levels.
• Perform routine analysis on non-complex instruments with no assistance.
• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on non-complex instruments with assistance.
• Perform complex extractions and sample preparations with no supervision.
• May mentor and train Associate Specialists when needed.
• May be a system owner on instruments.
• Handles data and prepares spreadsheets, results summaries and drafts reports.
• Ensures testing of client samples and reporting of results is accomplished in a timely and accurate manner.
• Keep laboratory area clean and well organized.
• Works under close supervision from supervisor or senior personnel.
• Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required.
• May be required to work Holidays and weekends.
• May be required to work overtime.
• Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals.
• Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Other duties as assigned.
• May be required to assist in other departments

Experience / Education

• Minimum 1 year of lab experience
• Has demonstrated consistent performance of non-complex instruments
• GLP/GMP experience required
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Ability to perform moderate to complex mathematical calculations
• Has demonstrated strong time management skills
• Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
• Willingness to take on new roles and responsibilities without management oversight
• Need to be able to read, write and understand English
• Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work in a Lab setting with exposure to biohazards/chemicals
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
• Must be able to work in environment with minimal noise levels
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
• Ability to crouch, bend, twist and reach
