Community and Stakeholder Engagement Manager

We have a brilliant opportunity for an experienced stakeholder and community engagement leader to join the Transurban Corporate Affairs team, working on the $6.7 billion West Gate Tunnel Project

This role will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of key engagement activities associated with the West Gate Tunnel Project. This will involve supporting the Project team to deliver critical construction activities and mitigating impacts on local communities, managing issues and providing strategic counsel to Project leaders. You will lead a team of Community and Stakeholder engagement professionals as well as building and fostering relationships with key stakeholders, including government, our contractor, industry bodies and local communities.

The impact you’ll have: 

  • Develop and deliver stakeholder engagement plans for the project. Stakeholders could include State Government departments, senior internal leaders, construction contractors, industry bodies, etc.
  • Proactively identify community impacts the project may have and work with appropriate stakeholders to mitigate.
  • Proactively engage with project stakeholders to ensure effective communications and consultation where required.
  • Effectively manage communications activities to the local communities to ensure they are well informed of project updates.
  • Represent the project in key external briefings and forums.
  • Provide people leadership, mentoring and coaching to team members.
  • Plan and deliver community initiatives and strategic partnerships to support project objectives.
  • Work with the Project Management team and the broader Transurban public affairs team to identify and plan to manage any potential project issues.

The talents you’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience and skills in building and fostering relationships with key stakeholders and communities, across internal and external parties as well state and/or local government.
  • Ability to manage, influence and negotiate with a variety of people across all levels. You’ll be able to gain trust and influence others to achieve strong community outcomes.
  • The ability to identify issues and impacts along with problem-solving skills to determine best outcomes for the project. As well also identifying positive opportunities for engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading people within a communications, stakeholder engagement or project management environment.
  • Strong communications skills, written and verbal as well as the ability to create and deliver engaging presentations.
  • If you have tertiary qualifications in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or the like and have experience working on large infrastructure projects in a highly regulated industry, this would be highly advantageous.
