Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Senior Corporate Accountant, the Corporate Accountant is responsible for the following key responsibilities:

  • Accounting and financial reporting, which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Preparing monthly journal entries and general ledger monitoring, including full working paper/audit file preparation, detailed account reconciliations and analysis;
  • Preparing financial statements and analyzing the financial results;
  • Determining appropriate accounting treatments; and
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits;
  • Settlement activities, including reconciliation of invoice information with counterparties, invoice payment, monitoring bank account activity, and processing invoice and settlement activity;
  • Preparing government and other regulatory reports;
  • Collaborating with other Emera departments to provide financial information;
  • Preparing other routine and ad hoc analysis and reports.

You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience: 

As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a minimum 5 years related work experience and have completed an accounting designation (CPA, or its predecessor CA, CMA or CGA), a related combination of experience and education will be considered;
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
  • Knowledge of the gas and power markets would be considered an asset but not required;
  • Detailed oriented and posses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment;
  • Have a solid business acumen, customer focused and comfortable working with confidential information.
