Data Engineer 1

We are looking for a full-time Data Engineer 1 at our headquarters in Olathe, KS. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our Big Data Ecosystem used to study performance and patterns of millions of connected devices.  You will ultimately contribute to business intelligence for new opportunities, product ideas and improvements, and learn to master Linux administration and Hadoop Cluster management. Other essential functions include:

•    Configure and administer data servers and Hadoop components
•    Participate in design, code, test, maintenance, enhance and decommission phases throughout software life cycle to contribute technical expertise and to identify complex issues
•    Participate in and help guide research POCs, including design, coding, and performance and efficacy measurement.
•    Participate in 24×7 on call rotation
•    Assists team to develop reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
•    Contributes input to broader technology solutions outside of discipline
•    Demonstrates professional maturity through giving and receiving constructive feedback
Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another relevant field.  Other requirements include:

  • Outstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Exposure to or foundational knowledge in Linux System Administration
  • Exposure to or foundational knowledge in Big Data Platforms and/or Relational Databases such as Hadoop, Cassandra, Big Table, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.
  • Exposure to or foundational knowledge Distributed Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement new technologies effectively
  • Demonstrated strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Superior academics
  • Previous experience working in a team environment
  • Experience with Linux System Administration
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python
  • Programming experience in JAVA
  • Experience with Container platforms such as PCF, Docker or Kubernetes
