Data Engineer

Bunzl Continental Europe (BCE) consists of 53 different companies (opco’s), spread over 12 countries. To accelerate the digital transformation, Bunzl has decided to start a central expertise center for data analytics. This central team will take a leading role in creating new data-driven insights and help the different opco’s to roll this out to their organizations for local insights.

BCE is active in fast-changing but interesting markets such as hotels, restaurants, takeaway, food retail, fashion retail, hospitals, universities, etc. BCE is very ambitious and wants to play a leading role in the digitalization of the market. New data insights are essential in that strategy. We want to build experience in a pragmatic but fast-paced way.

The Data Engineer has the possibility to start the set-up of our data strategy and workflow from scratch. This is a newly created position, and you will be the first member of our central Data Team working closely with the 53 opco’s. Overall, you’ll strive for efficiency by aligning data systems with business goals. You will soon be joined by a data analyst and you will build a network of local data analysts in the 53 opco’s. You will be reporting directly to the Digital Transformation Director at BCE group level.

Your Responsibilities:

• Develop analytical tools and programs
• Build algorithms and prototypes
• Evaluate business needs and objectives
• Advice the Bunzl company on future tech stack and tooling
• Build data systems and pipelines
•  Interpret trends and patterns
• Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modeling
• Combine raw information from different sources
• Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability
• Identify opportunities for data acquisition

Job requirements

• To succeed in this data engineering position, you should have strong analytical skills and the ability to combine data from different sources.
• You have technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
• Data engineer skills also include familiarity with several programming languages like SQL, Python and knowledge of learning machine methods.
• About 5 years of experience in a similar role.
• You like to learn and build new things, but you also like being part of a bigger company and help your colleagues as a data expert.
