The Customer Network Implementation (CNI) team is responsible for the end-to-end deployment of TELUS PureFibre network. This Engineering team is accountable for all the growth and sustainment work, to keep our network reliable and ready to serve the customers.

As a Design Specialist II, you will be working with a number of internal teams including Planning, Project Management, Construction and Marketing as well as our partners.
  • Oversee the external partners’ performance on quote, design and build
  • Ensure adequate capacity of outside plant fibre network is maintained
  • Ensure schedules and deadlines are monitored and adjusted appropriately
  • Liaise with internal and external customers to determine needs and negotiate issues to resolution
  • Liaise with developers and municipal officials to provide communication infrastructure solutions
  • Continued focus on reducing OPEX spending
  • Support CAPEX and OPEX savings opportunities for all joint use pole programs with BC Hydro
  • Support the Licensee program
  • Respond to and/or resolve customer complaints and engineering matters

  • Maintain quality standards for engineering designs
  • Cultivates internal relationships with project manager, planners, marketing, engineering managers, and construction to ensure smooth workflow and strategic alignment with priorities
  • Consult as an engineering expert regarding engineering design & process, detailed system use, corporate and regulatory policy regarding TELUS infrastructure provisioning
  • Responsible for running and analyzing reports to identify gaps and opportunities as well as forecasts
  • Coordinate concurrent projects and/or multiple resources to efficiently allow engineering resources to retire workload
  • Provide a single point of contact for external departments as required for projects and programs as required
  • Accountable for the financial management of capital allocated to Networks
  • Lead and/or participate in the development and preparation of financial analysis, studies, reports, and associated presentation material
Qualifications

 

You’re the missing piece of the puzzle
  • Experience in drafting design tools
  • Working knowledge of municipal and civil policies and procedures with a high level of knowledge of accepted engineering standards and practices to provision the network
  • Experience of outside plant analog and digital technologies and also of fiber optic infrastructure and general engineering processes and regulatory policies in use
  • Detailed engineering knowledge of a suite of design systems and tools including SAP, AutoCAD, SpatialNet with specific experience producing designs based on sound engineering economic analysis and following guidelines established by network standards
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing to meet scheduled deadlines and the ability to effectively interact with external customers
  • A proven track record to work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively with other departments
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communications skills coupled with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must follow safe work practices and abide by all safety rules & regulations
  • 3+ years of relevant telecommunications experience
  • University degree
Great-to-haves
  • Knowledge of Outside Plant network estimation
  • Civil Engineering Degree
  • Solid background in Programming
  • Data analytics to be able to provide insights of business, finance and projects
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental policies & regulations
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), currently or on-track
