Job Description
The Business Information Management Lead (Director) will collaborate with Early Development and Translational Medicine leaders to identify, qualify, and drive the adoption of technology solutions that achieve business operational outcomes and strategic goals. The Director will coordinate across various shared services groups within IT and other functions to successfully align, integrate, and enable new capabilities for Otsuka and our affiliate.
Core Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
- Business Relationship Management: Collaborates and partners with the business to enable and support strategic programs and projects. Manages business expectations and alignment to business requirements. Assumes accountability for all aspects of IT planning and delivery. Provides ongoing feedback to continuously improve the IT operating model.
- Business Process and Technology Strategist: Defines the technology strategy for Early Development and Translational Medicines in alignment with strategic business goals and objectives. Understands their ‘market’, the leading technology providers and how to apply the appropriate technology. Develop a business aligned IT strategy and roadmap that addresses operational contingencies. Identifies technology opportunities to address process ‘pain points’, enable leading practices and technology-enabled improvement opportunities. Builds business case for implementation IT initiatives. Creates and owns appropriate business-aligned implementation plans, roadmaps – timelines, ownership roles, milestones, etc.
- Portfolio Advisor: Defines (in partnership with the business) IT priorities for the business and associated technology investments. Manage IT portfolio for the assigned business functions including portfolio creation, IT budget forecast and be accountable for financial outcomes. Understand business strategic goals and objectives. Inform and influence business strategies bringing current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems for competitive advantage.
- IT Connector: Understands who to engage for internal IT products/services to achieve business value. Knows IT strategic platforms and drives business partners towards ‘standard’ platform solutions. Creates SLAs within IT in support of the business (where appropriate). Provides business updates on new IT products/services.
Qualifications
Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of 10 years of Life Sciences experience required, with 5+ years in supporting Early Development & Translational Medicine functions in IT customer facing capacity.
- Insights and knowledge of leading technology trends and best practices which are improving the processes and strategic decision making on early development investigational products.
- Working knowledge of model-based drug development for phase1-3 studies, good understanding of PK-PD concepts and analysis.
- Broad R&D business and IT capability awareness with hands on experience using or implementing Early Dev & Translational Medicine technologies.
- Experience working with globally distributed business and IT teams, especially in Japan, EU and India.
- Superior presentation skills with the ability to influence, drive action and strategy including ability to effectively interface with all levels including senior leadership with demonstrated executive presence.
- Organizational change management, issues & conflict management, business-technology innovation and transformation experience.
- Up to 20% travel is required, based upon business needs.
Educational Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or an advanced degree in Biology or Chemistry or Pharmaceuticals is preferred.
Advanced degrees in the relevant discipline will be desirable.
