Eastman Chemical Company is seeking an Organic Chemist for the Corporate Innovation laboratories located in Kingsport, TN. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to contribute innovative technology and product solutions in order to deliver growth for multiple Eastman businesses.
Job Responsibilities:
-Translate market needs into product concepts and prototype targets for corporate growth programs
-Execute effective experimental programs to synthesize and evaluate prototype products including development of laboratory screening methods
-Solve complex problems, analyze results, propose next steps and strategies, and document conclusions/issues on a timely basis.
-Work in and lead multidisciplinary teams (technology, manufacturing, business, marketing, regulatory/product safety) to innovate and develop new commercial opportunities for Eastman
-Develop relationships and coordinate collaborations with internal subject matter experts and external partners (e.g., customers, national labs, universities, etc.)
-Assess and enhance capabilities within Corporate Innovation to ensure appropriate evaluation techniques are in place to support ongoing research
-Communicate results to technology, manufacturing, and business stakeholders. After sufficient protection of intellectual property, share relevant technical data through presentations with customers

Education: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry/Natural Product Synthesis or related field from an accredited college or university.
The candidate must possess:
– Ability to understand and carry out standard methods relevant to product development. Experience required to efficiently perform a variety of research experiments and tests including setting up and operation of apparatus and equipment.
– Demonstrated creativity and a desire to solve challenging and complex problems
– Exhibit a high level of initiative and self-motivation
– Broad interests and willingness to take on relatively undefined challenges
– Strong project management and team leadership skills
– Excellent oral and written communication skills
– Ability to work in a team setting and with members from different technical backgrounds
