Position Summary

Are you collaborative?  Are you looking for a role where you can have a direct impact in how wine is made?  Look no further!  As an Enologist, you will partner with the Cellar and Winemaking teams in distributing and gathering work orders for things such as tank top inspections and stirring, as well as updating the tank boards, temperature management systems and tracking worksheets.  Hands on experience in the lab, ensuring analysis is completed timely and running fining trials, oak trials, experiments are also duties you will be responsible in ensuring the best quality wine is produced.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct trials and experiments as directed
  • Implement wine and brand style objectives via work orders to cellar
  • Set up tastings as directed
  • Lead on chemistry & microbiological oversight of wines
  • Participate in tastings and discussions regarding wine style establishment
  • Identify flaws and bring them to the attention of upper Winemaking management
  • May participate in blending and have laboratory responsibility
  • Support local winery culture and Company vision
  • Ensure compliance with TTB regulations related to all winemaking activities
  • Understand and promote a safe work culture/environment
  • Complies with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies
  • Understanding of wine making and laboratory processes
  • Ensure wines meet all quality standards, as directed
  • May recommend and be involved with developing and maintaining lab procedures
  • Work within operating expense budgets
  • Learn key financial metrics (ROIC, EBIT, Cash Flow)
  • Build network with peers and coworkers to ensure best practices and all key assets are leveraged
  • Develop solid industry network to maintain/build industry trends and innovation (for example: ASEV, Industry counterparts)
  • Participate in industry groups to continually improve technical expertise
  • Support Winemaking team at Consumer/Trade fairs and winemaking related events

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Enology, Food Science, Chemistry, (micro) Biology or related field
  • 1+ year Harvest in Winemaking, Lab or Cellar experience
  • Basic knowledge of winemaking techniques, laboratory analytical methods and best viticultural practices
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal government regulations, specifically TTB and state regulations on alcoholic beverage production, distribution, and packaging
  • Computer proficient in Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Good organizational, planning, and presentation skills
  • Clear commitment to high quality and attention to details

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Travel Required: 10%
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and work on a computer for extended periods. Lifting may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
