Fatigue & Damage Tolerance (F&DT) Specialist Engineer, at the Prestwick site in Scotland, UK.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Head of F&DT at Prestwick, you will provide specialist engineer support to the F&DT Function.
- Act as a coach/mentor to lower level F&DT engineering staff.
- Use discretion, and expertise in the field, to reach decisions, escalating only very complex or sensitive matters.
- Supervise and approve the work of structural analysis team members to fulfil customer expectations, ensuring cost, quality and delivery of FD&T objectives are met.
- Identify and implement appropriate structural analysis methods and techniques to be utilised for particular work packages.
- Identify different and novel structural configuration arrangements to meet customer requirements.
- Define the F&DT structural requirements to be met for particular work packages.
- Identify new F&DT analysis approaches, tools and techniques to improve the effectiveness of the F&DT analysis process, and make suitable recommendations to senior management.
- Support the Head of F&DT and Head of Structural Analysis in preparation for gate reviews and key customer meetings.
- Act as a customer interface for the resolution of technical issues on F&DT.
- Ensure work programmes are delivered within budgets and deadlines and in line with customer requirements.
- Identify and sponsor new F&DT signatories with the Head of F&DT.
- Plan and agree F&DT work sequences and timescales with the lead engineer and customer.

Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Be a Graduate (or equivalent) in an Engineering or Science discipline, with typically 8 years of practical F&DT experience.
- Have experience in applying structural analysis tools and classical F&DT techniques.
- Possess a thorough understanding of general theories and applications covering a broad knowledge of aerospace structural analysis and a good appreciation of Finite Element Analysis.
- Be knowledgeable of Aircraft Regulatory requirements relevant to the discipline and the different Means of Compliance approaches to meet these requirements.
- Be IT literate with a good level of competence in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Hold good communication skills with an aptitude to develop the abilities of the team.
- Be well organised with the ability to initiate and implement process improvements and maximise the utilisation of the team and systems.
- Have proven analytical skills with an ability to appropriately identify and provide solutions for key technical risks.
- Possess experience in leading others in a highly technical environment.
- Hold knowledge of structural test engineering, general aerospace engineering, manufacturing and project management.
- Having a knowledge of some aspects of commercial, finance, personnel, training and quality management systems would be of benefit.
Decision Making Authority:
- Check/Approve F&DT calculation templates and toolsets.
- Check/Approve the F&DT work of others to ensure Company, Customer and Regulatory requirements are met.
- Approve F&DT technical plans and work statements.
