Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, this individual will play a key role in the Controllership team, which is responsible for maintaining accurate and current expenses/accruals, provisions, pension obligations, accounting for special transactions and implementation of new accounting standards.

What you’ll do in the role

  • Develop or recommend actions to raise standards and improve operational effectiveness and consistency through process, technology and/or people capability development
  • Oversee aspects of the monthly close process, including preparation of some key month-end journal entries and related reconciliations
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations performed by other team members
  • Ensure high quality and timely reporting and analysis to Senior Management/Executive team, Parent Company, and other stakeholders as required
  • Responsible for all aspects of Expense reporting such as tracking expenses against agreed plans, KPIs and targets on a monthly basis highlighting and investigating variances and ensuring they are appropriately addressed
  • Work with various business partners to provide insightful and timely information
  • Lead and/or contribute to a variety of ad hoc and special initiatives that are assigned within the Controllership team
  • When new accounting standards are issued, assist in the technical research, analysis, and impact assessment, and work with the Manager, Accounting to implement the applicable standards across the organization.
  • Provide expert advice to Finance and/or Business colleagues on financial matters proactively and in response to requests or situations as they arise
  • Liaise with external auditors and ensure that any regulatory or audit issues are promptly and appropriately resolved
  • Support Financial Control Framework (FCF) process by reviewing key control documents to ensure that controls are functioning properly and updated

What you’ll need

  • 3+ years of experience in a finance/accounting/auditing/financial reporting role
  • University Undergraduate Degree
  • CPA professional designation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
  • Advanced skills in Excel
  • Exceptional communication (verbal & written), influencing and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead and manage change
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting processes
  • Able to quickly learn and embrace new technology/systems
  • Demonstrated success as a solid team player and comfortable contributing within a team of peers
  • Ability to multi-task in a face pace environment against challenging timelines and workload pressures
  • Experience in researching, assessing, and implementing accounting policies
  • Provides coaching and mentoring for new and less experienced staff
