The PG&E Geosciences Department is a group of engineers, geologists, geophysicists and seismologists providing a wide range of support for geologic hazard evaluation, seismic resiliency program development, geotechnical assessments, seismic risk assessment and management for all company business lines. Our goal is to support safe, reliable, and affordable energy delivery, regulatory compliance, and efficient business operations.
The Geosciences Department has responsibility of providing expert insights on geotechnical conditions and geohazards relevant to existing, potential modifications to, and proposed PG&E facilities and infrastructure. This group is also chartered with continuing to develop state of the art analytical insights, tools, and assessments of new data and interpretation of existing data with emergent technologies in geosciences, geotechnical engineering, and seismic engineering.
Position Summary
The Geosciences Department is looking for a talented civil engineer with geotechnical experience to assist with both programmatic and project geotechnical engineering work including field work activities. Anticipated tasks may include but are not limited to:
- Assist with field geohazard assessment and report preparation
- Leverage available public and private programmatic resources to perform preliminary desktop site assessments for geotechnical conditions
- Geotechnical instrument data entry, analysis, and interpretation
- Interpretation of geospatial and topographic data (e.g. LiDAR data)
- Geotechnical calculations (e.g. slope stability analysis, retaining wall analysis, shallow and deep foundation design)
The selected engineer will have the opportunity to support activities as described above while working with a team of experienced Geo-professionals. Additionally, the engineer will gain exposure to geologic and geotechnical practice for a variety of utility infrastructure assets, such as pipelines, electric transmission towers, canals, penstocks, and dams.
