Your new role
In this exciting role you will be responsible on behalf of the Fleet Engineering Director (UK) for managing and leading all aspects of engineering activity and support for the UK West region including safety, reliability, technical support, configuration, asset management, and engineering change, to ensure the daily delivery of a safe and reliable fleet that enhances the customer experience.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Lead and directly oversee all aspects of fleet engineering activity for the UK West, including safety, reliability, technical support, configuration, asset management, and engineering change, to ensure the daily delivery of a safe and reliable fleet that enhances the customer experience.
- Fulfil the roles and responsibilities of the Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) Maintenance Development function in accordance with ROGS.
- Deliver technical engineering support to the operation including advanced fault finding, management of High Risk and Safety Related defects, and lead technical investigations to establish root cause, containment and future mitigations.
- Deliver engineering change and fleet modifications, ensuring relegations, standards, financial targets and contractual obligations are consistently achieved and, where they fall short, take appropriate remedial action to drive improvement.
- Lead reliability growth to maximise fleet availability in support of the operation through the relentless pursuit of continuous improvement.
- Deliver the optimisation of maintenance plans and associated costs in support of the operation.
- Lead all aspects of technical assurance and performance reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
- Integrate wider support functions including Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality and other central functions to deliver engineering outputs.
- Exploit the Hitachi Fleet Monitoring Tool (HFMT), and other business information systems, in order to support the development of a Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) approach to maintenance.
- Support the timely submission of bids and proposals whilst maintaining compliance with applicable Train Services Agreements (TSA) and legal requirements.
- Support the delivery of the heavy maintenance and overhaul capability for UK West operations.
- Deliver the mobilisation of new business, including the WCP TSSSA, and ensure that the delivery of new capability is compatible with the realisation of benefits and business outcomes.
- Ensure current engineering capability is sustainable and integrated across wider business functions
- Anticipate, manage and resolve risks and issues and initiate appropriate corrective action.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team providing individual mentoring, coaching, support and development to succeed in their roles.
- Challenge the existing culture, current processes and procedures to increase asset utilisation and resilience.
- Lead change and build a collaborative approach and trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, partners and suppliers.
- Work closely with the wider senior leadership team to improve the performance and reputation of the business.

Competences
- Experience (3+ years) of working at a senior operational engineering level and proven track record of leading teams within a fast moving customer facing organisation.
- Astute contractual and commercial awareness and demonstrable business acumen.
- A natural senior leader with recognised ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Hands on engineering experience and ability to develop, deliver and lead fleet operational improvement strategies.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of operating within UK rail industry.

- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Critical thinking and strong analytical skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards.
