Information Technology Rotation Development Program (ITRDP)

PG&E’s IT Department is headquartered in San Francisco, CA with teams in various locations within our service territory.   The IT organization is comprised of over 1600 professionals who plan, design develop and operate the information and telecommunications systems that enable the company to meet its commitment to customers: Keeping the Lights on and the Gas Flowing, Delivering at a Reasonable Price, Meeting Our Commitments, and Simple and Convenient Options.  IT supports the business vision by improving service quality, increasing capabilities through the development of additional functionality, implementing new technology, reducing cost, increasing productivity, and facilitating organizational and business effectiveness through enabling technologies.

Position Summary:

The ITRDP is a 12 – 18 month rotation program that provides engineers an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience in up to three departments within Information Technology.  Samples of the possible placements are in the following areas:

  • Business Technologies (Customer Care, Electric, Gas, Power Generation, Corporate Services)
  • Information Security and Compliance
  • Architecture
  • Infrastructure & Operations (Server Support, Application Operations, Networking, Mobile Technology, Client devices)

The rotational opportunities may be located anywhere within our service territory.

Responsibilities:

With six months in each rotation, participants will have a variety of work responsibilities, the goal of which is to both learn about the department and contribute to its success.  Engineers can expect to work in various locations across PG&E’s service territory. Candidates must be highly motivated, show great initiative, and deal with people and issues openly, directly and respectfully. Candidates must also be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas clearly.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates will be receiving a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline within the timeframe of May 2019 – June 2021.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong communications, initiative, and teamwork
  • Programming languages – Java, Javascript, Microsoft .Net, Powershell, C++, Web, ios/swift, node.js, Python, Spark/PySpark, PostgreSQL
  • Cloud services – AWS, Azure, GCP, and Salesforce
  • Containerization skills – Kubernetes and Docker
  • Enterprise Applications – SAP, Oracle
  • CyberSecurity related course work and or experience, ELK Stack
  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA) – Blueprism
  • Green/Clean (SmartGrid) Technologies
  • Development/Execution experience – agile development, CICD
  • MS Office Suite
