Key Account Manager – Packaging Solutions (UK and Ireland) – is responsible for managing existing customers and targeting new accounts to provide WestRock’s high-end value-added carton packaging solutions You will have a background in packaging, packaging machinery, packaging solution selling, ideally gained in Food Service, Food Systems or Beverage. We are seeing good opportunities for us, linked to the replacement of plastic by cardboard.
Flexible working practices are encouraged; individuals may choose to work from their home base, when not required at a customer or at a WestRock location. This position will ideally be home based along the M4/M6 corridor and requires 60-80% travel.
How will you impact WestRock:
- Manage and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, while continuing to provide differentiated competitive solutions and excellent customer service
- Offer customers a complete packaging solution (machine and consumables)
- Focus on new opportunities with the replacement of plastic packaging
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with customers (supply, packaging, quality, production, technical, marketing, maintenance) while providing differentiated competitive packaging solutions
- Build a strong pipeline of sales opportunities; manage and track these closely using multiple tools including salesforce.com
- Prepare targeted commercial proposals and ensure comprehensive follow up
- Collaborate cross-functionally with geographically diverse internal teams to assess the feasibility of new project specifications and evaluate the impact on capacity and resources
- Work in partnership with our Packaging Systems machinery teams; have an interest and desire to learn and understand our technical engineering solutions.
- Manage account timeline, budget, and other critical customer administrative responsibilities
- Produce regular reports on your client portfolio and business activity
What you need to succeed:
- 8+ years’ experience within a business development/sales role in the converting industry
- Solid experience in business to business sale of packaging (cardboard, glass, metal, plastic) ideally linked to the sale of mechanical solutions
- Background in packaging, packaging machinery, packaging solution selling
- Solid experience in strategic client management
- Excellent negotiating skills for sales and customer service
- Proven ability to develop accounts
- Used to working within a global company
- Knowledgeable about manufacturing/production methods of carton, design, and printing processes
- A genuine interest in machinery and system selling
- Self-motivated, persistent and entrepreneurial
- Good collaborator with excellent communication skills
- Detail orientated and well organised
- Accomplished user of Microsoft Office – Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word
- Working knowledge of Salesforce.com an advantage
- Drive and hunger to succeed – strong commercial acumen coupled with perseverance and excellent relationship building skills
- Home office based or at WestRock facility
