The Role
The purpose of the role and your unique contribution is to be part of the operational risk team responsible for driving efficient and effective management of operational risk in the Intermediated (IIA) division. You will assign, oversee and undertake risk identification, assessment, management, mitigation and reporting aligned to the IAG Risk Management Strategy, Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite Statement. You will be a visible advocate for driving risk maturity uplift and improvement in operational risk culture within WFI and IIA, and lead activity with the Operational Risk Consultants within the team. A critical success factor for the role is the ability to engage broadly and communicate effectively within IAG to influence a practical understanding of operational risk.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy:
Leads the discussion and risk activity to ensure the Risk Management Strategy, Risk Frameworks, and methodology supports and enables the WFI business unit strategy to increase operational risk maturity across WFI
Customer:
Lead the risk and controls assurance over the interactions we have with our customers to ensure regulatory and legislative compliance
Operational Performance:
Leads the uplift of risk maturity across WFI to facilitate the taking of risk within appetite by risk owners
Leads business unit risk profiling activity & risk forums alongside the Risk &QA Manager
Undertakes or directs the team to undertake risk assessments of key businesses processes or decisions to support risk-based decision making by the business.
Undertake the testing of controls from the risk profile and associated compliance obligations to determine whether key controls are designed and operating effectively
Facilitate group or individual executive discussions and risk workshops
Provide guidance to the team on incident management oversight and support the business owners to respond to investigating, managing, and resolving incidents, issues or actions, including, the reporting of significant reportable breaches to the Executive Risk Committee, the Board Risk Committee or regulators
Provide coaching and performance uplift to Risk Consultants within the team.
Manage the people leadership direct report accountabilities focusing on performance, direction and allocation of work and professional development.
Ensures effective systems and process are in place for receiving and implementing new regulatory obligations across the business
Works to ensure the risk team supports WFI compliance with our policies, procedures, contracts, applicable laws, and regulations
People:
Leads, coaches, develops, assigns work, and oversees activity of Risk Consultants
Promote the embedment of risk maturity in the business and a pro-active risk management culture
Skills & Experience
Experience in General insurance or financial services industry, and exposure to risk management or compliance role – essential
Experience leading a team
Ability to analyse large amounts of information and concisely communicate the findings
Good knowledge of risk management practices within a financial services context
Ability to consume data and use it to make good business decisions.
