Wayfair is looking for Legal Counsel – Compliance to support Wayfair’s rapidly-growing business in Europe. In this high-impact role, this attorney will focus on Wayfair’s international business, including regulations applicable to our vast and growing product catalog in Europe. This role can be based in Berlin or London.
The Role
Reporting to the head of Legal Compliance, this candidate will liaise directly with senior management and play a leading role in developing processes that promote product safety and compliance across Wayfair’s entire EU business. As part of a small legal team where all members contribute at every level, this candidate must be able to work cross-functionally and independently. The role will require creativity, effective project management, and a willingness to develop a mastery of both the big and small picture.
What You’ll Do
Support Wayfair’s growing EU businessbyproviding legal guidance to sell consumer products across the EU and UK
Provide counsel in areas related to product safety, product labeling, environmentalreporting, and product marketing
Design processes and procedures to facilitate the international flow of products in a safe and compliant manner
Liaisewith market authorities and regulatory agencies
Develop relationships with suppliers, product testing laboratories, and industry contacts
What You’ll Need
Qualified lawyer in UK or Germany (if in Germany, minimum of first Staatsexamen)
Fluent in English required; fluent in German preferred but not required
Strong academic credentials and 2+ years of professional experience; preferably in an international law firm, regulatory agency, or in house legal department
Excellent legal drafting, negotiation and communication skills
Experience with EU product compliance and product safety regulations preferred
Self-directed, highly-motivated individual who is able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, high volume environment and meet deadlines
Willingness to master new and unfamiliar areas of practice and contribute to projects large and small
