About the Role

 The Legal Counsel partners Swiss Re’s Reinsurance business unit in EMEA to provide legal support with some emphasis on its longevity reinsurance business. The role focuses on enabling origination and successfully executing longevity transactions and EMEA reinsurance business initiatives whilst ensuring proper governance and compliance with internal and external requirements, and supporting the successful management of in-force business. The geographical scope of the role is wide, and you need to be able and willing to adapt to changing market dynamics, different legal systems and cultures.

 In your role you will:

  • Provide legal advice and support Swiss Re’s growing longevity reinsurance business (structuring, negotiating, executing, implementing and managing transactions)
  • Support a variety of other bespoke transactions such as reinsurance/retrocession business, new product development and related transactions, internal group projects and strategic initiatives
  • Conduct legal and regulatory due diligence on transactions; review, draft and negotiate deal documentation; prepare legal risk assessments; instruct and manage outside counsel (as needed)
  • Ensure the alignment and efficacy of transaction documentation and consistency with Swiss Re standards
  • Assist the global lead longevity legal in coordinating approach to associated legal/regulatory issues and support development of efficient policies and practices that maintain high legal and ethical standards
  • Assess and advise on legal/regulatory matters applicable to Swiss Re’s reinsurance activities in the UK/EMEA; monitor legal/regulatory trends for relevant business areas and conduct training on legal topics
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse group of colleagues, counterparties and law firms

 About You

 Qualification and Experience

 We are looking for you if you:

  • Are a fully qualified lawyer (UK preferred), with a minimum of four years’ experience, preferably in (re)insurance transactions, with a law firm or international financial institution/insurance company; experience in M&A, finance and/or capital markets would be considered beneficial
  • Have solid transactional and regulatory experience of cross-border matters and ideally a good understanding of longevity (re)insurance, bulk purchase annuity/pension de-risking and capital market transactions
  • Provide high-quality, timely client service that is balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of the firm
  • Work independently and prioritise multiple requests and deadlines
  • Balance and navigate legal risk protections and commercial imperatives
  • Are an excellent communicator (written and verbal) and adopt a pragmatic, consultative approach to problem-solving
  • Speak and write in English fluently, other languages are a plus
