Basic Job Functions:

Perform mechanical engineering duties in planning, design, and fabrication of maintenance friendly systems in projects to enhance/support Production and Maintenance teams. Work with teams to establish 5-year plan for assigned projects to improve productivity and reliability in the mill. Design equipment/support systems for capital expenditure and non-capital projects with mechanical design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Create project engineering, detailing, execution plan, resource management and timeline using MS projects. Obtain bids, cost justification and budgeting for vendor management. Track tasks and expenses in project management, scheduling, and planning. Coordinate project execution, contractor, resources, and permitting using standardized processes and quality management techniques. Support teams as needed in planning and executing maintenance down day/outage activities. Coordinate with contractor team to create scheduled plan for project and maintenance activities. Implement safety regulations, inspect work locations for hazards, and inform parties involved. Review ISO guidelines for multiple processes in maintenance and engineering departments, document changes, and update personnel and contractors as needed. Detail scope of work and duration to obtain quotes and provide requisitions and documentation for work to be done. Inspect work based on ISO guidelines and update equipment hierarchy system as required. Use ERP systems such as Oracle or Infor Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software, to track equipment purchase, vendor work hours, and equipment hierarchy modification. Optimize manufacturing practices through design of mechanical equipment and upgrade of existing equipment including baghouses, alloy systems, structural platforms and structures, procurement of new machinery. Participate and assist in preventive maintenance of equipment. Use SolidWorks and AutoCAD for mechanical design, detailing, and fabrication. Design mechanical equipment, layout drawings, assembly drawings and structural drawings. Perform design, fabrication and installation of safety work platforms and structural reinforcements. Update and document structural changes on super structure as needed. Participate in and/or provide mechanical engineering assistance for Nucor safety, emergency response, and environmental teams as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering and Management, or a directly related field of study and a minimum of two (2) years of industry experience in mechanical engineering project support for production in steel making. Experience must include: 5-year plan to improve productivity, reliability in mill; engineering, design & fabrication of systems to enhance/support production, maintenance teams; mechanical equipment design, upgrade of existing equipment including baghouses, alloy systems, structural platforms and structures, procurement of new machinery; maintaining ISO guidelines for maintenance, engineering processes; planning, executing maintenance down day/outage activities. Requires hands-on experience in SolidWorks, AutoCAD for mechanical design, detailing, fabrication; ERP systems for tracking, equipment hierarchy modification; project resource and contractor management; bids, cost justification, budgeting in vendor management; and tracking tasks, expenses on capital expenditure and non-capital projects.
