Testing Required: Not Applicable
Oversees non-destructive examinations (NDE), including establishing techniques and procedures, interpreting codes, standards, and specifications, and designating particular testing methods. Leads complex studies and analysis related to engineering, testing, operation, and maintenance of equipment and systems. Coordinates training and examinations of lower level NDE technicians. Provides senior level guidance for technical direction, interpretation, organization, execution and coordination. Plans and develops NDE project and solutions which impact major company assets. Acts as a liaison with key engineers, scientists, and external companies. Span of control: 0; individual contributor.
• Develops and performs specialized NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) examinations
• Maintains requirements of NDE program, inclusive of conducting training and certification activities for site examinations
• Performs engineering investigations, research, and engineering duties related to NDE as applicable to power plant operation and maintenance
• Identifies root causes of complex and unique problems relating to equipment impacting system reliability and directs troubleshooting, data gathering and testing to provide cost effective, practical methods of solution
• Acts independently on technical matters and maintains liaisons with experts outside the company
• Creates specifications, performs vendor evaluations, bid reviews, and provides recommendations for the procurement of specialized equipment, systems, or services
• Provides NDE expertise on the application of recognized Codes and Standards
• Coordinates work of other experts, engineers and technicians as required
• Creates, reviews, or revises major company operating documents involving NDE for equipment reliability and safety
• Evaluates and participates in the development of new and emergent NDE technologies. Leads the approval of new NDE products and technologies relating to company assets for possible program implementation
• High school diploma with 8 years of experience in non-destructive testing and Level 3 certifications as indicated below:
• ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing) Level 3 Certification in NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) methods VT (Visual Testing), PT (Liquid Penetrant Testing), and MT (Magnetic Particle Testing)
• Obtains ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing) Level 3 certification in UT (Ultrasonic Testing) within a year of employment
Preferred
• Additional ASNT Level 3 certification in RT (Radiographic Testing), inclusive of advanced studies in NDE, welding, and/or boiler equipment
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
Other Requirements
• Ability to write effective technical engineering reports and communicate effectively
• Ability to apply technical and organizational expertise to perform root cause analysis
• Ability to provide expert interpretation of applicable industry codes and standards
• Ability to prepare and review unique analyses, special tests, or investigations, and provide recommendations to meet company goals
• Ability to make effective presentations to management on major issues
• Proficiency in computer applications applicable to specific field/discipline
• Solicits input and works with industry groups on industry problems and standards
